Dear Shirley and family - We are so saddened by the loss of Eliot, our dear friend. His bravery and strength over the last couple of years were inspiring. We will miss deeply his larger than life personality and his amazing sense of humour. We mourn his passing.

Dear Shirley, I am so sorry for your loss. There are no words. My thoughts are with you at this most difficult time.

At first, the mah jongg girls came to know Eliot through Shirley, when she became a core member of the group for the last twenty-five years or so. During that time, when Shirley hosted the maj game on every fifth Tuesday, Eliot always poked his head into the living room to say hello before heading out to take Kiki for her evening walk. Later, Peter got to know Eliot as well, when Eliot joined Peter's online "Jeopardy question of the day" group. And we often spent time with Shirley and Eliot as a couple, at happy events such as weddings and other celebrations. He was always fun and interesting to spend time with, with his lovely British accent, and that's what we'll remember the most. It's inconceivable that Eliot is gone from all our lives, not to mention the lives of Shirley and the kids, so soon. Please accept our sincere condolences on your loss.

There are no words that can convey how truly heartbroken we are to learn of Eliot's passing. It was destiny that Eliot and Shirley came into our lives when we met on our honeymoon. The Bensons have been part of our lives for over 40 years. I remember Eliot telling me a few years ago how my dad always treated him like he was part of the family, and I told him that there was a good reason for that. Dear Shirley, our condolences to You and Your Family on this very sad news. I commenced working with Eliot in 1981 at Tullett and Riley Toronto. He was a wonderful colleague and a lot of fun with his charm and British wit. I had the good fortune of meeting up with him a few years ago for drinks at the King Eddy. We regaled each other with stories from our careers and had a good laugh. Circa 1982 I was traveling by bus to Montreal on the 401 to a forex function ; what did I pass on the way? A Corvette engulfed in flames at the side of the road. About thirty feet away, Eliot comforting his biggest spot Canada account Citicorp trader, one George Spelios. I laughed for the next 200 km. Saw them later in the evening and bought them consoling drinks. George was a character in his own right as a hangover from the disco era, he would were on occasion a green satin one piece pant suite with a white scarf to the clubs. I am sure Eliot dutifully attended with him ( before Shirley). Eliot was a Gentleman, a valued colleague and a superb fx broker. The Canadian market was a better place with his decades participation. My deepest condolences to Shirley, Danielle, Lianne and Jeffrey and the grandchildren. Eliot and I worked together for much of our careers. We spent over a decade sitting right next to each other on the trading desk. We shared our ups and downs, the frustrations and euphoria typical of a day in a trading room. Eliot was steadfast, calm, a total rock; he watched my back constantly. He never let me down. His kindness and honesty were understated; if I needed telling it like it is, I went to Eliot. Many of us don’t last in the broking business for long. But Eliot’s long career is a testament to his ability to build new relationships and maintain old ones. As the old clients moved on, and new younger clients arrived, Eliot was valued for his consistency, integrity, professionalism and experience. Eliot had a terrific sense of humour and I have many stories to share. Everyone who knew him, knew him to be quite frugal, and it was the cause of some great laughs, like the time he was so proud of buying a pair of shoes for $20. Not only did they look it, but they were also plastic and fell apart after a few days! Naturally he was teased about this for weeks on the desk. Or every Valentine’s Day he’d buy chocolates for Shirley the day after so he could get them for 70% off! There are so many stories to tell….another time. Eliot, it was great working with you, knowing you and being your friend and I shall miss you terribly. Thank you. Henry
