Elyse Gelman (née Resnick)

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Elyse Gelman at age 67 following a courageous battle with cancer. Elyse passed away peacefully in her home with her family by her side on Monday, May 3.

Daughter of the late Paul and Miriam Resnick, sister of Howard Resnick and the late Joel Resnick. Daughter-in-law of Mary Gelman and the late Aba Gelman.  Lifelong partner, soulmate and wife of Simor Gelman. Beloved mother to Corinne and Bryan and adored by their spouses Michael and Leyat. And the absolute best grandmother to Noah, Jake, Ryan, Sophie and Mason.

Elyse had a life full of joy and happiness, surrounded by family and friends.  She had a great sense of humor and was the type of person that people gravitated towards.  She built strong and lasting friendships, some over 50 years in length.  As she said many times in her final days – “I had a great life with no regrets.”  Elyse will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Elyse and Simor owned a business and worked happily side by side for 36 years.  They enjoyed many trips around the world with family and friends.  Elyse’s love and joy of travel continued into their retirement, where Elyse and Simor spent significant time with their kids and grandkids in Toronto and New York – and on countless family vacations. Elyse never missed an important moment in their lives – whether it was camp visitors’ days, hockey games, school assemblies, dance recitals, or being there for every birthday party, whether they were in Toronto or New York.  Elyse was recently able to participate in the Bar and Bat Mitzvah’s of her 2 eldest grandchildren, Noah and Sophie – which brought her immense joy and happiness.

A private graveside service to take place.  Shiva visits to be arranged with the family.
