Joel, my condolences on the passing of your father. He was larger than life. May his memory always bring you and your family happiness.

If one is lucky enough they get meet people who leave a lasting impression. Ernie was exactly that. Passionate, intelligent, kind, truly genuine (so rare in this world), cared about others, cared about what is right and what is wrong, and a memory that was extraordinary. Yes, he could talk your ear off, but you know what...now I miss having my ear talked off by Ernie. My sincere condolences to his family for their great loss. We all lost someone special and unique. My mom passed last July, and it was through my mom that I met Ernie. I've already told my mom to be on the lookout for Ernie, and to give him a big hug for me.

I met Ernie recently. I was so impressed by what a warm, intelligent man he was. The sad untimely tragedy I am sure leaves much pain. May his memories be a blessing.

Ernie was a good friend who will be dearly missed. I'm grateful to have seen him earlier this month before his passing. I will always cherish our many years of friendship and his continued support and dedication to his community. I send my deepest condolences to his children, family and loved ones. My sincere

One of the most difficult things I have ever done is to write this for my sidekick and dear friend Ernie Lustig. Never was there a man so full of life generosity and love of helping others without limits. Being with Ernie was like travelling through time reliving his childhood living over his mom and dad’s barber shop. What a photographic memory which allowed him to share details like the price of pickles in Kennsigton market to his classmates exploits at Orde Public School or playing basketball at Central Commerce High School. Whatever Ernie did in the 40’s or through the decades he did it with gusto and all out. Never forgot his season tickets to the Toronto Husky’s or going to Bellwoods Park as a Bat Boy for Tip Top Tailors. Most of all Ernie was a 70 year volunteer for Liberals going back to Lionel Conacher the Big Train . Ernie was volunteering still on his local community group and his local Synagogue. He loved reminiscing about the TriBell Club he founded and his days in Hallandale.Most of all he loved seeing his grandkids playing hockey or at Ellen’s and Gerry’s on Fridays. He was so proud of his son Joel and his daughter Ellen and never stop loving his beloved Sharon. Ernie did everything with gusto and was always the first to offer help or advice with no questions asked. Thank God we were able to play the 90th Christie Pits Riot Anniversary game we had planned for years before he left us. What a truly amazing Canadian who lived by the principles and values of his Jewish Heritage. We were all made better by Ernie Lustig and I was especially inspired and blessed to have been at Ernie’s side the last 15 years. What a Mensch.What a friend.

As I make my way to burial site it is with unbelievable sadness for a man who did so much for me as well as my family. He was always there no matter how tough the political issue was and a dedicated Liberal. He knew what loyalty was and was a great Canadian who is irreplaceable. I will do a statement in House of Commons at first opportunity.

My deepest, heartfelt condolences on this terrible loss. I know Ernie's family will carry forward his inspirational legacy. Ernie was full of strength, kind and thoughtful, generous with his time, and a fierce advocate for political activism and community spirit. I will always remember his support in my run for Toronto City Council - in fact, it was a pleasure to bump into him recently at United Bakers, swap campaign memories, and hear him offer some good advice and recount some great stories. Dear Lustig Family I would like to send my sincere condolences in memory of a very special friend Ernie Lustig who for many years made a generous donation to The Speakers Action Group. Our group is now called the Canadian Antisemitism Education Foundation. Ernie appreciated our great efforts in fighting against antisemitism which has become a major concern.
