It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of Faye Rochelle Baron, a loving wife, sister, sister-in-law, step-daughter, aunt and cousin.  At age 73, she passed away peacefully on November 19, 2024, having been surrounded by close family.  Predeceased by her parents, Peter and Molly Baron, Faye’s memory is cherished and kept alive by her partner Bruce Peterson, her dear sisters, brothers, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Saretta Baron and Ira Katzin, Maxine Coopersmith (the late Barry Coopersmith), Stephen and Karen Baron, Lisa Baron and Erich Buss, David and Rachel Baron, and Ruth and Jeff Erhlich, and her step-mother Vita Baron, as well as her many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.

Bruce was Faye’s date for her sweet sixteen and she remained dedicated to him for well over five decades.  She was a deeply caring cat-mum – little Siamese Jimmy was her sidekick for 20 years and she never stopped missing him.  Cats helped bring and keep Faye and Bruce close.  She was an accomplished downhill skier, in the Laurentians, in Vail and in Switzerland, skiing at 10,000 feet in minus. 40 degrees weather.  Growing up in a large family with six other siblings, Faye’s family meant everything to her.  She loved going to large extended family gatherings.  On weekends she often visited a sibling where she insisted on a challenging, fast-paced game of Bananagrams.  We rarely let her win, but this did not deter Faye, as the fun of the game and spending time together were more important than the win.

Faye was committed not just to her family and friends, but also to her work.  She  had a few rewarding careers, years later returning to university and we all were so proud of her as she successfully earned a Masters in Computer Science.  As a Systems Analyst, Faye put to rest the unfounded adage that older people are technophobes and cannot be proficient on computers, let alone in the high-tech world.  She had the determination and intelligence to even land a job at Google.  Faye was dedicated and hard-working and did not retire until earlier this year.  Sadly, the disease that took her from us came only too closely on the heels of her retirement.

We remember Faye as warm and exceptionally loving, kind, smart, generous to a fault, fun and funny, with an incredible memory – speaking often of her childhood and many memorable times with family and friends.   Faye loved to travel, spending a year in Israel in her teens and later in life often joining other family members for a couple of relaxing weeks on a warm, sunny beach as winter gripped the north or visiting long-time friends in various parts of Canada and other countries.

Many thanks to all who were a part of Faye’s life and who helped get us through these difficult times.  Faye, we love you.  You will be greatly missed!
