August 7, 1932 – November 24, 2023

With much sadness we announce that our mother, Florence (Faigie) Bernstein, passed away on November 24, 2023 in her 92nd year.

Florence was the loving and devoted wife of Jack (predeceased 2021) for 67 years. She was a wonderful mother to: Tobi (Alan), Lawrence (Marie-Louis) and Richard (Nancy). She loved and was very proud of her grandchildren Michael (Jennifer), Sarah (Daniel), Bryna, Julien, Ira and Rebecca (Jeff), as well as her great-grandchildren Charlotte, Theo, Penelope and Jackie.

Florence was the daughter of Isaac and Ida Levine (predeceased). She was the sister to Norman Levine (predeceased). Florence was also a loving aunt and cousin.

Florence loved nothing more than being around us and was happiest at family dinners and celebrations, especially when the whole family was all together. She was thrilled to watch her family continue to grow and that she got to enjoy 4 great-grandchildren.

Florence had a wide group of friends, and was grateful to have enjoyed her life with her best friend Ruth Cohn… a friendship that spanned almost 78 years.

Her favorite pastime was playing Mahjong, which she played with her friends, every week, for 75 years.

Over the past 12 years, Florence showed incredible inner strength. She was fiercely independent, fighting with every ounce of energy she could muster to keep her beloved Jack with her for as long as she could, as well as for her own independence through endless health related obstacles. When she simply could not live on her own anymore this year, Valleyview Residence became her home. Many thanks to the team on the 4th floor West for the excellent care and attention they provided our mom.

‘It’s not what you leave to your family that matters, it’s what you leave inside them’. Our mother will be in all of our hearts and thoughts forever.
