When she was given the position as teacher of our son Avi's class in Hebrew Academy she was warned that they were a noisy bunch who majored in misbehaving. Together with the countless people mourning Cooki's death, I remain in awe of a remarkable woman and friend. She and Barry raised three impressive and loving sons and were our favourite neighbours in Cote St. Luc. Others have written about her exceptional abilities as teacher and school principal and we all know the lasting impact she made on hundreds of school children at HA and Akiva School. My memories of Cooki go back to when as a 10 year old she was the cutest of my campers at Ramah in the Poconos. Bubbly and full of energy, destined to go places. She had so much to give.

Sometimes someone comes along and they have no clue as to their impact on a family,, their children, and their lives. Cooki was the head of Akiva approx 25+ years ago and it was blatantly obvious the kids were front and centre of all her decisions. I remember her calling me and my wife to a meeting and suddenly we were confronted with every teacher who taught one of my children explaining to us why our child was suffering due to us being unaware of how poorly he was doing, and my other child seemed to spend as much time in the main office than the classroom. Because of her giving it to us “straight” with a few home truths we were able to understand and rectify our approach and would she be proud of them now. We are forever in her debt and both Jaffa and myself are so thankful she was there like a third parent to with her tough no nonsense guidance. To a wonderful lady thank you and may you RIP

I can not describe the sadness that we all feel for the untimely loss of Cooki. I remember the many happy times our families spent together for Shabbat , Yom Tov and the wonderful simchas we shared. I had the great pleasure and honour to have been hired by Cooki, and then worked with her for over 20 years at Akiva, where I still work to this day. Cooki shaped Akiva into the model school that it now is. She was an inspirational, caring leader who taught us to strive for greatness. Not only that, she was our "work mother" and often called herself my "surrogate mother" when I needed that kind of relationship as my own mother deteriorated with Alzheimer's. I remember being invited to your family celebrations and to your home for Shabbat dinners and lunches on several occasions. Cooki made the best cholent ever! During my first pregnancy 20 years ago, I craved her cholent, and she provided some batches to me as my belly grew. Cooki was a fair and respected Head of School and a great friend to so many. Her advice was powerful and no-nonsense. Some of my best memories of Cooki are from our annual Akiva retreats, where we would share a drink together and laugh endlessly. It is impossible to believe that Cooki is no longer with us, but her legacy lives on on so many whose lives she touched, including mine. May her memory be a blessing.

I will never forget how on her first day as principal at Akiva School, Cookie came around to all the classes and brought us each a cookie. I really appreciated her wit. I learned later that she was one tough cookie - but in the greatest way. She made our school a learning community and a place for children to feel safe. I spent many years at Akiva but got to know Cooki best during my 3 year term as President. As any parent in the school, I already knew what an amazing leader she was. I was immensely fortunate to work closely with Cooki as we transformed Akiva into a 2 stream school. She was a delight to work with. Smart, funny,and intensely caring about the institution she (along with Barry) helped build. She had a profound effect on the lives of so many people and will be missed greatly. To the Levy family. My family and I are sending our sincere condolences on the passing of Cooki. Working with her at Akiva was a great privilege. Throughout the years she has always been a great leader, role model and an inspiration. When Cooki returned to Akiva, she helped me with my new administrative role, mentoring me with kindness and perseverance, always giving me her best advice . When Cooki left Akiva, I remember she promised to learn how to play piano, but next we found out that she took another administrative role in Bjec, always ready to contribute to the Montreal community. It is now so hard to believe that Cooki is no longer with us. She will be so missed. תהי נשמתה צרורה בצרור החיים.

To the Levy family, We are terribly saddened by Cooki's death. We met her, years ago, in the home of friends in Albany, NY, and were impressed by her wit, kindness, thoughtfulness, educational insights, commitment to Judaism and love of family. Although we have not been close, every encounter with Cooki reinforced our original impressions. The poignant and powerful hespedim today - each different in emphasis and focus- all identified comparable middot. She was, as Barry said, a real angel.

I now live in Atlanta, but being from Montreal, I took some classes with Mrs. Levy at McGill. She was an amazing teacher. Later as an educator, I grew to respect her even more as an outstanding advisor in her field. I only now learned of her passing when reminiscing with a friend from Montreal.
