What a warm, bright, interesting, talented woman was this lovely lady. I was fortunate to enjoy a few golf and bridge games with her and I was so happy to attend her mandolin concerts. My condolences to Fran’s family.

If, as most of us believe, a leaders job is to inspire, Fran was a leader to all of us who knew her. Her example of living a life of what could be, rather than being bogged down by a life that is, gives us something to strive for. We can follow her example of making a sweet, tasty lemonade with our own lemons. Rest in peace, dear Fran.

On behalf of the Toronto Mandolin Orchestra (one component of the Shevchenko Musical Ensmeble) I extend our sincere condolences to Elaine and family on the loss of her dear mother. Fran was a dear friend and colleague to many for some 50 years in the Toronto Mandolin Orchestra. She joined in the early 1970s and enjoyed decades of making mandolin music, appearing in hundreds of concerts in Toronto, including on such memorable stages as Ontario Place Forum, and all across Ontario bringing our music to smaller communities. Fran was a kind, generous person who, even although she had lost her husband and then tragically her son, exuded the love of life and love for others. She was a woman with a great deal of class, always interested in the lives of others and willing to help where she could. On the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of the Toronto Mandolin Orchestra we produced a documentary film and Fran was asked to be interviewed as one of the long-time members. Referring to the orchestra, Fran ended her interview by stating: “It is my identity”. I had the pleasure of enjoying many a golf outing with your mother both here and in Florida. Always light-hearted and fun sprinkling our conversations with yiddish. My sincere condolences. |She will surely be missed.

My sincere condolences to Fran's family and friends. She was a fine person and a strong mandolin player who will be sorely missed. I was privileged to played in the second mandolin section of the orchestra with Fran for close to twenty five years.

My sincere condolences to the whole family for the loss of a beautiful and special lady with a very generous and lovable smile. I met Fran and David when I joined Temple in 1966. Dave and I served on Brotherhood and we struck up a wonderful friendship which expanded over the years. in the 1970's Fran and Dave rented our family cottage in Bell Ewart for several winters, resulting in the purchasing their own place in the area. Fran was a very giving and lovable person even after the passing of Dave and her son Gary. I personally will miss her and our wonderful chats.

Dear Alan, Becky, Ruth and family: What a beautiful tribute to a beautiful lady. Over the past few years, Fran and I crossed paths several times and we always had wonderful chats. She was so gracious and kind and very interested in my family. I know that her family was everything to her. May her memory be a blessing to all that knew and loved Fran. Much love and hugs

Dearest Harris and Elaine, Al and Lorne: My deepest heartfelt condolences to you all. Try to remember what a loving, strong person Fran was. I remember her strength 50 years ago when I came to stay for a week or two with my own problems and she treated me as one of her own. Even after she lost her husband, then her son, nothing slowed her down, nothing got her depressed, nothing kept her off the golf course. That’s some kind of tough lady. A wonderful woman. I will miss her.

We knew Fran as an individual and friend, who loved life, and her family. She perked people with her presence, enchanted with her mandolin, and influenced others with her energy. She will be missed. Mary and Marvin Cooper

We were next door neighbours to the Kirshenbaums in the 50's/60's, and were in and out of each other's houses, as was the custom on our stretch of Overbrook Place. The Kirshenbaum's backyard swing set was a huge deal and the hub of activity, thanks to Frances and Davie's efforts to ensure their energetic lot had a viable outlet. Frances was clearly an adoring mother, who proclaimed Harris "a genius" and Elaine "beautiful." Her primary goal was to provide every advantage to ensure the successful growth and development of her children; she succeeded. I have a mental picture of Frances from back then, all dressed up, getting into the car to go out with Davie; she was a knockout. To Harris and Elaine and families, I extend my sincere condolences on the loss of your treasured mother.
