Ganz, Gitta (Holocaust Survivor)

Sadly on Thursday, February 27, 2020 Gitta Ganz passed away in North York General Hospital surrounded by the love of her family.

She will be greatly missed by her children Howard and Mindy, her daughter-in-law Fay, her grandchildren Sonny, Emma and her husband Ofer, Jesse and Rachel, and her great grandchildren Milu and Dezzy.

Her funeral will be held on Sunday, March 1^st, 2020 at the Beth David B’nai Israel Am, 55 Yeomans Road, Toronto, at 11:00 am.

Followed by internment at the Dawes Road Cemetery, Beth David section.

Memorial donations may be made to Beit Halochem Canada (905) 695-0611 or the Ganz Family Endowment at the Beth David Synagogue (416) 633-5500.

Shiva Details: SHIVA 198 Sandringham Dr., Toronto, M3H 1E3. Visitors welcome daily from 11:30-3:00 p.m. and 5:45-8:30 p.m. Morning services 8 a.m. at Beth David Synagogue Monday to Friday, Sunday - at 9 a.m. Evening services Sunday to Thursday at 6:00 p.m.

Dear Mindy, Howie, Fay, Sonny, Jesse, Rachel, Emma, and family, It was with shock that I heard the news today in Jerusalem. Gitta and Sam, Z"L were family. My father Major and Sam came to Canada on the same boat. Since, that time our families have been intertwined, and our parents the closest of friends. Gitta was not only a pillar of her community, but of her family and friends. Her door, home, and heart were always open to receiving guests, people in need, and hosting for every occasion. Her generosity of spirit, selflessness, humility, and cooking were legendary. My mother Fela,(Fay) Lewkowicz lost her beloved lifelong friend and confident. Gitta, Baruch Dayan Emet, was one of the last remaining pearls that embraced our family of survivors and their children. You will be terribly missed. Love, Frances, Fela, and family

I remember learning about Bubbie's life growing up and sharing it with my class for a project. Her story was both moving and motivational to them, and especially to myself.
