Harold: I treasure the time we spent together, not just talking about Operating Systems, SMP, PUT tapes and VTAM but more so about Jewish customs & culture, Middle East politics and Canadian government policies. You are one of the most talented IT professionals I have encountered in my long IT career and I very much enjoyed working with you as a team. Thank you for all your contributions. Rest in peace.

We were saddened to hear of Harold's passing. Our sincerest condolences to his family. Harold was a colorful character, and definitely smarter than most, and it was always interesting to speak with him, but you needed to watch the time. Rick & Lorraine

Baruch Chastkofsky

I remember a Harold ( Chaim) Berglas from 1966 He was one of a group of about twenty from Montreal who attended Ner Israel. Harold was an easy going and friendly fellow. Although I knew him for only one academic year- and hadn't heard about him since- he left a lasting and favourable impression. My condolences to his loved ones.

Harold, you will be missed, our thoughts and prayers are with your family. I will cherish the times we have spent together, mostly you colorfully sharing your thoughts. I am always in awe, at times about the things you remember, problems resolved and countless reasons why it's a "VTAM" issue. How can forget your memory of JES and Easytriveve, I sure hope you completed that code you were working on. Yes, we shared some good times at the "The Roti Hut", having Fish and Chips and me discussing the Bible. Rest in peace

My sincere condolences to Harold's family. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time, While it may be difficult to look beyond the sorrow, may looking back at the many cherished memories bring you comfort. 'Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, Love leaves a memory no one can steal' I worked briefly with Harold in the '80s. where he was truly the SME (subject matter expert) on the initiative. It was an amazing period. He exhibited immense patience and very willingly shared his vast knowledge. This experience I have never forgotten. Rest in Peace - Harold

Harold was an absolute cornerstone for our technology here at TD. I remember fondly many of my conversations with him, including my first days at the bank when he explained tape management system to me (unsolicited ?), and the number of times sitting in a bar listening to him and other seniors talk about technology and yes beverages at the time helped me to understand more, maybe. And I remembered the only time I changed team here in TD, he sees me on the hallway, smiled at me and said "Wang and I just started to like you, but now…", and yes I often ordered the Harold special at our cafeteria as well, the famous fried egg sandwich.

My deepest condolences to David and Natalie. When I started at TD I quickly realized Harold was the go to person for about anything on the main. Initially I was a bit apprehensive on approaching him as he seemed so knowledgeable and would be impatient with my simple questions, however, that was not the case. Harold loved to share his knowledge and his opinions on many subjects. Even after retirement he continued teaching at our fish and chips luncheons. You are gone my friend but never to be forgotten.

It is with a sense of shock that I just heard of Harold's demise. Although we have not been in touch recent years, I remember him fondly. He spent many a shabbos with my family when he was an out of towner in New Israel during his high school years. In an act of total kindnes, he gifted me a string of pearls from his late father's inventory for meal to give to my daughter who was getting married. Harold was a real mentsch, and, may his wife and son be comforted by all the fond memories of his inimitable personality.

My prayers and condolensces to his family. I started at TD in 1985 and was part of Harold team. He was a major contributor to TD's support systems. Harold taught me about programming and LIFE for over 25years. He was a real genius and will be missed.
