On Sunday May 12th 2024, at Sunnybrook Hospital, Harv Lewin passed away at the age of 78. Beloved husband of Bobbi for 53+ years. A loving father and father-in-law to Adam, Gary (Joanna), and the late Ryan z”l. Proud “Zay-D” to Zoe, Aubrey and Parker. Brother to Jeff (Nina) and the late Francie z”l. Brother -in-law to Mel (Helen) Leiderman.
Harv lived his life on his terms and by his rules. Harv was a family man. He was a fierce and highly successful trial lawyer. He was a passionate baseball fanatic. Harv played hard ball!

Definitely one of my favourite parent's, of friend's from my youth. I thought Harv was absolutely great! I am confident he made me laugh out loud every single time I saw him. I keenly remember the excitement Harv had when going over the many paths he undertook, to find one of his cherished baseball hats in the basement! His passion was undeniable, and to me, fascinating. I also remember many times when I was there to spend time with Adam, that I would wind up spending so much time with Harv, that Adam would need to intervene! I was always sorry to hear when Harv was going through the tremedous amount of health issues he did, over the last many, many years, that he endured. It seems it was miraculous that he was with you all until now. He seemed to me to be like a cat with 9 lives, and one very tough cookie, Very very fond memories of Harvey over the years, that will always remain with me. To Bobby, Gary, and of course Adam, my sincere condolences on your loss.

I knew Harv best through the stories Gary told us about him. Gary loved telling stories about Harv. He’d tell stories about Harv’s childhood in Windsor, Harv’s UNB days, Harv’s triumphs in the courtroom, Harv’s antics on the diamond. He’d tell them playfully, embellishing or leaving details out. He’d tell them to get us to laugh, to loosen up and enjoy the moment. I think he got some of that from Harv. Gary knew that Harv was the man, that Harv had made something of himself, that Harv was a great character and a great Dad. Gary, Bobby, Adam: I’m sorry Harv’s gone, but I am 100% confident that he will live on in the stories told about him.

Harv was one of one. To say he was a character is an inadequate deion. I enjoyed spending time with him as a professional adversary on files. That we were in an adversarial system did not mean we had to be disagreeable with one another. Harv was probably one of the first lawyers that made this truism clear to me. When he occasionally had a client who had difficulty with important concepts like the truth, Harv dealt with the situation with his usual good sense of humour in an unflappable manner. He will be missed.

Very sorry to hear about Harv's passing. Over many years of litigating files with him he was always one of my favourite opponents . I have some great memories of my interactions with Harv including the first time I met him in the mid/ late 80's when I was getting ready to question his client., He walked into the room wearing a Yankees cap and we then spent, much to the annoyance of his client, a hour talking about what was wrong with the Jays, a conversation I think we continued every time we saw each other for the next 30 years . I will miss him.
