It is with heavy but full hearts that we share the peaceful passing on September 30th, 2023 of our family matriarch Helen Poch (nee Rosenberger) at the age of 106. Beloved wife of the late Louis Poch, loving and devoted mother to Harry and Debra, David and Hinda, Susan and Mel. Cherished grandma of Mìra and Nash, Max and Danna, Zack, Lee and Yannai, Shayna, Robbie, and Michael. Thrilled great-grandmother of Lyra.

The last of her generation, Helen was pre-deceased by her four older brothers and their spouses. She also leaves behind her dear nieces and nephews in Montreal, which was her birthplace and home until moving to Toronto for Lou’s job in 1955.

Helen was a mid-century modern mom who was smart, witty, charismatic, a constant inspiration and a wonderful role-model for all her family. She experienced the trials and triumphs of the 20th century including the discoveries of insulin and penicillin, the home use of radios and phones, two pandemics, two world wars, the Great Depression, the civil rights movement, televisions, and the advent of the digital age. Women did not have the right to vote when she was born. During her lifetime, 20 different Prime Ministers led the country.

Helen is a true legend and it was a joy to have her in our lives for so long. Although she will be profoundly missed, her stories and her spirit will carry on in the generations to come.

Special thanks to Dr. Shim Felson for providing over 50 years of dedicated care, and to Carmen, Ana, and Lita.

Memorial donations would be gratefully appreciated for JIAS (416 630-6481/giving@jiastoronto.org), or a charity of your choosing.
