Saba Henush profoundly impacted my life in soo many ways. He was a pillar of strength who’s overriding love and concern for his family was supremely important. He was a role model, proud parent who worked extremely hard to provide his family shelter, food, security, education, and peace. Moving from Poland to Israel to Toronto. He was a devoted 70 year partner with his wonderful beloved wife, Guta (Ima). He rose from the ashes of the Holocaust, survived encampment and beatings, cared for his “brother” Nathan and nursed him to health and life, and later aspired a better life for those he loved. My poignant memories include this time of the year, that sadly , presently keep us apart, instead of being together to comfort one another and pay physical homage to Henush. Yes, being together during Passover was a joyous holiday for Henush, impeccably dressed in his suit and tie and shined shoes. A time honored tradition to be a happy family together, lighting the candles that illuminated our hearts and his home, reciting the Haggadah, making matzah ball soup with Ima, laughing and having fun with the cousins and friends. Listening to many of the same stories over and over again and watching Henush proudly holding his grandchildren and kissing his children. As I look back I cherish those times as the happiest times of my life and I so wish we could all return to those days again and that joy. Perhaps in honoring Saba Henush’s memory and legacy, we can all come back together in friendship and spirit with renewed unification and love for each other that he would want. Placing egos aside and replacing it with love, compassion, and sincere care for each other. Understanding and wanting what is best for the other person instead of ourselves and knowing their pain. In that way we will achieve true familial happiness and live his legacy and dreams. I was blessed to have Henush as a father in law. A man I always looked up to and I will eternally cherish my happy memories of him. May his irrepressible soul be bound in the eternal bond of life. So very sorry for the families loss. The relationship and love felt between a father and his daughter is something singularly unique. This was the case for he and his daughter Marilyn. The adoration, caring and understanding of a wonderful husband, father and grandparent was always present. He was a proud, wise, and compassionate man. I will always remember his humour and kindness.
