Henry Smukler

Hello Claire and family, I just read this was sadness and shock. Henry was my good friend in high school in Montreal and we even met many years ago in Toronto when our children were little. I hope he had a good life and I am sorry that he died "young" -- 75 is the new 55. We send our heartfelt condolences to all of you. המקום ינחם אתכם בתוך שאר אבלי ציון וירושלים

Chaya and family, if life is measured not by years, but by the positive impact one had through their kind deeds, through the chesed and generosity that enhanced other people’s lives, and the continuation of these maashim tovim through the offspring who learned from example, then your husband lived an extremely long life. May you and your family have decades of simchas and nachas, and continue to make a difference . You were a true aishes chayil and a sterling example to those whose path crossed yours. I'm so sorry to hear of Henry's passing. I remember him vividly as a young, vibrant and energetic man and a wonderful healer. I remember him dancing with Avraham at various celebrations in our young days. Avraham and I both send our sincere condolences. Sarah Chana

I have been thinking of Henry with sadness and remembering what a good human being he was. In our twenties we were close friends. Henry had a good number of close friends because he gave all of them what he gave me; he gave love, care, and help when needed. At that time, he had a passion for Eastern philosophy, religious studies, Hatha Yoga, and meditation. Sometimes with a bit of trepidation, I and his friends travelled into the spiritual unknown with him. He was a big hearted, good-humored guide who possessed wisdom that I looked up to. Later he altruistically continued on his path. I cherish the many summer weekends we spent in tents in a forest and then in a rambling farmhouse, the plethora of discussions we had about our youthful insights, the revolution in the music scene we shared as new artists captivated us. I have precious memories of many days spent at Henry and Claire’s apartment on McKay St., a veritable shelter from any storm. Over the years we drifted apart, but from time to time I heard about his life as a devoted husband, father and successful chiropractor. I had admired what Henry and Clare shared in their early marriage, and in time the family they created became an amazing testament to that bond. No matter how great life’s challenges, the love that Claire and Henry had for each other could never be exhausted. Though it has been 45 years since Henry and I were close friends, I still love him. There are many who feel that way. My sympathies to Claire and the Smukler family.
