Hymie Fish, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and loyal friend, passed away on June 26, 2025, in Toronto, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, laughter, and community service. Born in Montreal on March 10, 1932, Hymie was the son of Sam and Yetta Fish and grew up with his four sisters, Betty, Lily, Sylvia and Sharon.

For fifty years Hymie was a dutiful and loving husband to his wife, Dorothy, who he met when he moved to Toronto. He was a devoted father to his children, Natalie (the late Chris), Frank (Ann), and embraced his role as a stepfather to Monty (Jennie) and Darryl. His love extended to his grandchildren, Sean, Erin, Zak, Dylan, Tiffany and Alexa, and his great-grandchildren Felix, Oskar and Roman.

Hymie was a man with a quick wit and dry sense of humour. Hymie served as the president of the Knights of Pythias and was a long-time member of the Lions Club, giving back to his community.

From a young age, Hymie was a hard worker. Growing up in Montreal he started working at his father newspaper stand, eventually working his way up from stocking shelves at Steinberg’s grocery store to becoming a global importer of produce. His passion for fruits and vegetables was evident to all who knew him, and he was always eager to share his knowledge and expertise with others. Whenever we see English cucumbers and green apples we will think of him, as he was proudly the first to import them and other produce into Canada.

Hymie’s funeral will be held tomorrow, Friday June 27th, with a private service at Mount Sinai Cemetery, Beth Shalom section, 986 Wilson Ave., Toronto, ON, to honour his life and pay respects. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Forest Hill Lions Club by mail at Forest Hill Lions Club at 123 Sheppard Ave West, Toronto, M2N 1M7.

Special thanks to Jennie for her years of love and support.
