Ian Beube

To Blanche and the whole family So sad to hear this news. Thinking of you all at this difficult time. A few years ago I had the pleasure of working with Ian on a couple of shows. He was always so great to work with and spend time, a total pro, warm and helpful.

Dear Beube Family, I have no words to describe my deep sense of loss nor to begin to understand how you must be feeling. E was a kind, caring, whip-smart, and funny guy. I cannot believe Monday was the last time he texted me. May his memory continue to be a blessing to you all. BDE. Terry

My deepest condolences to Ian’s family friends and co-workers. He was a friend. We worked together very closely for several years and when I had a project or idea, Ian was often my first call. I always enjoyed his sense of story, his sense of humour and his ability to handle problems and people with such warmth and grace. My work and life wouldn’t have been the same without him. Rest peacefully Ian. You’ll be missed.

Ian I met you at USDS you were always so friendly vibrant and kind to others. I remember going to your home when I hung out with your sister Blanche and you always made me feel so welcomed. My sincere condolences to your family

Very sorry to hear this news. Ian was a joyful mainstay at Howland Ave. during the early 90's as its long time occupants all danced about trying to sort out their place in the world. Special days. Deepest condolences to Ian's family and friends during this time.

This is long. I have a lot to say. He was my first and best friend from the time we moved on to Delavan Ave. We were three years old when we met. Two short, “husky department” kids that were inseparable. Used to fight over who Mr. Dressup was waving to at the end of the show but 15 minutes later we were best friends again. We made our own adventures and they were all firsts. Magicians, Clowns, Fire Trucks, the hovercraft, Riverdale Zoo. Always together. First sleep over. I got fed boiled tongue which turned into peanut butter and jam sandwiches. Living down the street made it easy to get home in the middle of the night when I got sad and scared. Ian moved and went to a different school for many years but we reconnected in grade 8 as we took out our “Cue for Treason” novels in Mr. Mitchell’s class and it was like we had seen each other just yesterday. Our adventures were taking a very different appearance from that time and through high school but again, we were joined at the hip. Weekend evenings spent at concerts, movies, plays at the Phoenix Theatre or what have you. It’s all about the “what have you”. We were both most comfortable though just hanging out on St. Clements or Huron St, but more often than not in my basement. We would listen to tons of music, sing badly and just talk. Pine over the distant loves of our life that never knew and likely still don’t. Listen to Ian on the drums for hours, in his element, never missing a beat to some of the greatest music of all time. There was a concentration but a serenity that you could see so clearly. The Dodge Dart, the Berger Compound in Beaverton, occasional Shabbat dinners on St Clements or he would make me dinners. Me? I took him to Chan or Monte Carlo. Another separation, this one certainly the longest as University happened, then work, marriage and my children. Life simply got in the way. I had just separated and from out of nowhere, Ian contacted me. I was so thrilled when we got together so I could introduce my first best friend to my daughters. A lot of years had passed, we had grown in different directions and it was awkward at first but we both kept at it and found our place again. That common ground. Might have been the Scotch but we got there. We kept in touch but again…. Drifted. Ian tried harder than me. Life continued to get in my way. I spoke with him last on his birthday. It had been some time. The magic of Zukerberg allowed for a mutual friend (and incredible girlfriend of mine from the early teens) to let me know about Ian before I could experience the jaw dropping sadness of having to learn about it from the daily e-mails of the funeral homes. I blew it by not making the effort. Missed the opportunity to maintain a connection. To tell Ian what he meant to me. Your first best friend remains your best friend forever. To tell Ian that he continues to have a real impact on me and that he mattered. For this, I am so very sorry and sad. Ian, I hope you can forgive me. To all, if there is someone that made a difference, reach out and tell them. Saying Kaddish this morning was agonizing. To Blanche, Brian and “Lilly-Penny” and all that mourn, my heart is broken from sadness. I cannot express my condolences enough to you and yours. May the good memories we have of Ian provide comfort and be a blessing.

My deepest condolences to the entire Beube clan. I remember Ian so fondly. As one of my brother Jay’s oldest friends, I remember him both from childhood ( his & mine), and from later, years ago now, when we had a chance to connect as adults. Over the years, I would frequently ask jay how Ian was doing, and would send , through him , my regards. He was a kind, funny, astute guy, who relished a good conversation and had an absolute heart of gold. There was such a sweetness about him. Again, my heart goes out to all his family and his many many friends. He shall sincerely be missed.

Brian I am so sorry for your loss. My thoughts are with you and your family. I am very saddened by the news. While it has been many years since i have seen him i can still recall his smiling face and sense of humour.

I met Ian when he was doing his MBA in the late 1980s. Ian was a smart, funny, insightful guy. Unlike many people, he followed his interests/passions and took risks in the process. I really hope that his path brought him happiness - he absolutely deserved it. He will be missed.

I will miss your voice, and your kind words, and our disagreements where you say “it’s time we had a come to Jesus”. Your love of music (you drummer boys you!) The dinners we had in business celebration and when you just came over to nosh with my family. Our love of cars, especially VW s! Our shared need to win! The love you had for your friends and my family. The uncanny ability to make me do things even when I had my hands full, Ie. calling me moments after my daughter was born to remind me we had a meeting tomorrow and was I prepared, The love in your eyes when my daughter first called you Uncle E The tears we shed when your momma died. I was always one of the first you called when u Needed to show off your new GF or car or apartment or New appliance. We were each other’s sounding board, in love and business. You had my back and I , yours. And just hanging watching tv eating Chinese and drinking wine, chilling. You always were generous and picked up the bill, and who could surge with you when you set your mind to something Even your generosity. You had charm and wit and brains and great hair! ? Your shirts were always military ironed, although fashion was not high on your list of priorities. You always had a pressed shirt or ten ironed in the trunk of your car. You loved your Australian outback boots too, I think you had 10 pairs. You were such a significant part of my life for years, My daughter who’s is named Nia shares your letter in your name as does my mother Ina which I always told you was an homage to you and what YOU mean to me and my family. Gone too soon. I will miss knowing that you are no longer a call away Love you pal.. xo JD

Sincerest condolences to the Beube family. Ian was such a lovely man. I worked with him at the Dunfield club many years ago, and even when working hard and sweating buckets, he was always smiling and laughing.

So unbelievably sad to hear of Ian's passing. I have so many great memories of Ian starting in kindergarten at USDS, when he was the rooster and I was one of his chicken dancers. When I think of Ian, it is his huge smile and gentle nature that stand out above anything else. May his memory be forever a blessing.

I have just learned of Ian's passing. I met Ian in our MBA days and he was such a lovely person with an incredible sense of humour. I know he will be terribly missed by his family and friends.
