It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Irv. Loving husband, brother, father, and grandfather to two grand daughters. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

I’m saddened by this tragic news. Irv was my basketball coach for a number of years. As a team, we traveled across canada, Israel, and Chile for the Maccabi games and JCC rep. He was a patient, funny, and passionate man who taught me a lot about the game and in turn, life. We reconnected years later in a professional capacity when he needed some help. I was both honored and happy to help my old coach anyway I could. I always appreciated his kindness and enjoyed hearing about his stories going to March madness and other events he found happiness in. Thanks for everything, coach.

Such sad news. My deepest condolences to the entire Mintz family. We go way back to the 60’s when we all hung out, played road hockey, attended Bar Mitzvahs, socializing at the same schools and much more. Irv was a nice, friendly, respectful person with a great demeanor. It was always great to catch up with him and have a chat. We had a connection between us, in that his dad and my dad were Apters, born in the same city in Poland. Growing up, my dad always referred to the family as Mintzmacher. Gone way too soon, but never forgotten. May his memory always be for a blessing.

I worked with Irv at Toronto Community News. His colleagues there and in other Torstar newsrooms will not forget him. He was a friend and mentor to many. Irv was brave and he didn't hold back when he thought the company was wrong about something, but was a mensch always. There was nobody like him.

I just found out. I am so sorry to hear this news. Many years ago I worked with Irv at the Oakville Beaver(1983-6) and the North York Observer (1993). When I was a cub reporter, Irv and I did many stories together. His pictures always made my stories better. He was funny, friendly, happy and extremely professional. The newsroom was always a joyful place when Irv showed up. One of the reasons my early reporting days were so much fun. My condolences and prayers to the family always.
