Israel Kleiner, the most devoted and loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, son, son-in-law, uncle, and friend, passed away on August 5, 2024, in Toronto, Canada.

Born in Chelm, Poland on May 22, 1937, Israel leaves behind a legacy of unrivaled generosity, humility, magnanimity, patience and kindness, especially toward his family: wife Nava, children Ronen, Leeor and wife Tania, Ayelet and husband Howard, and Tamir. Grandchildren Tia, Jordana, Jake, and Elise. Israel’s children, in particular, will forever cherish

his infinite love, strength, wisdom, teachings, and unwavering support throughout their entire lives.

Not to be forgotten is Israel’s sharp wit, often in the form of Yiddish proverbs and quotations from such luminaries as Albert Einstein and Yogi Berra, sprinkled at countless birthdays, anniversaries, Passover Seders, and numerous other celebrations.

Israel’s entire career was as an award-winning Professor of Mathematics, with a focus on its history and pedagogy. Some of his other interests were: world travel, politics, classic film and TV, and music (especially big band jazz, crooners, and classical).

Israel will be sorely missed by his dear family in Canada, Israel, the United States, many friends, and former colleagues.

To leave you with one of Israel’s favourite quotes, which speaks to his character: “If you’ve saved one soul, you’ve saved the world”.
