Jack Estrin, C.A. July 9th, 1927 – July 15th, 2021. Jack was born in Edmonton to Harry and Anne Estrin. Raised in Calgary and then later in Vancouver. Brother to Larry (Dana) Estrin of Vancouver and predeceased by his sister Miriam Gains. Jack grew up helping our Grandfather Harry buy and sell cattle throughout western Canada and the northwest US. Graduating from Prince of Wales in 1945 he found his way to UBC briefly, “I concentrated on poker and not on my studies”. After leaving UBC Jack set out on an adventure. Jack worked as a Logger in BC, on a cruise ship to Alaska and at a mine in the Yukon. Eventually in the early 1950’s Jack found his way to Toronto where he met our mum Mary (Finkelman). Jack and Mary were married in 1954 in Mary’s hometown of Kirkland Lake, ON. Finding himself married and in need of a career Jack returned to his studies and obtained his designation as a Chartered Accountant. After working for a couple of different accounting firms Jack joined the Ontario Ministry of Revenue as a corporate auditor; retiring from the civil service in 1992.

Father to Lisa Booth and James Estrin of Toronto. Proud Zaidie to Matthew (Sabine) Booth (Ottawa) and Joshua (Monica) Booth (Toronto), Mimi, Declan and Pippa Estrin (Toronto) and Great Zaidie to Audrey, Hugo and Levi Booth (Ottawa). Dad was a dedicated and passionate supporter of the Toronto Blue Jays. For over forty years Jack and Mary lived in Willowdale and during that time they spoiled a succession of dogs. Dad was often seen walking and chatting with his neighbours. A voracious reader with an amazing ability to recall details Dad was never without a book nearby. When the house became too much Jack and Mary enjoyed two wonderful years at Viva Thornhill. Requiring more care Jack & Mary moved to Advent ValleyView Residence. The family would like to thank the staff of 2 West for always treating Jack with dignity and respect. A special thank you to Dr. Abbas Saeedi for his dedication, his care and his friendship.
