Yosi was the beat big cousin. I loved his gracious kind fun loving ways. His generosity was large and quiet. His Uncle Sid and Aunt sylvia held him close to theor hearts.

We have wonderful memories of Jack from many many years as next door neighbours- building a beautiful retaining wall, flying his airplanes, and of course looking after our teeth with expertise and care. Jack Ellis was the kindest person in the world. He always took the time to ask how everyone in the family was. Lynda, Jason, Matthew, Jordan and Megan ( and families), your void will never be filled. Cherish the memories of this wonderful man. He will live forever in our hearts.

Dear Linda Jason, Mathew, Jordan and Megan and Family, Laurin, our kids and I will have a special place in our memories and hearts for Yosi. His gentle loving manner was never lost, not only as a cousin or as our Dentist . We wish you love and continued strength.

How can anyone, in just a few sentences, sum up the life of this wonderful man?  We can only skim the surface.  Many of us have known Jack for years—-so let me ask —-Has anyone ever heard him say a bad word or speak ill about anyone?  Neither have I.  And did you ever know anyone who spoke ill of him?  Neither have I.  Many of us knew Jack as a friend and were blessed to have him in our lives; and some of us were blessed to be part of his. His entire family was his treasure and he often  spoke glowingly about them, but never excessively—-that just wasn’t his understated, quiet and gentle style.  He was  a man who was loving and loved, a dedicated and faithful  husband, a devoted Father, a doting Zaida, a caring professional and a damn good golfer.  Mostly however, I knew him as my trusted and trusting friend from early in high school, through university and dental school.   Then there was golf—Oh Yes—-GOLF; probably 2000+ rounds together along with all the guys  who enjoyed each others company; Stan, Harvey, Bob, Shelly, Danny, Larry—-and Jeff who left us far too soon.  Apologies to anyone I forgot, but you knew you were there.  But to speak to his character, focus on the days that the guys stayed for dinner after golf.  “Who is staying tonight?”-someone would ask. Jack’s response—-“I have to phone Linda first”   If Linda was with her family or out with friends, Jack stayed.  If she was going to be alone, Jack picked up dinner for 2 and went home. Beyond all the platitudes, and for what it’s worth, I think he was one of the most decent people I’ve ever known. They’re not making many Jack Ellises anymore. Lynda and family, We are so so sorry to hear about the passing of Jack. I have many fun and fond memories of Dr. Ellis (Jack), dating back to my childhood days on Kingslake Rd, ensuring I shovelled every inch of snow off your driveway before collecting my earnings. I didn’t finish once due to the amount of snow and he told my wife Augusta 30+ years later I still owed him $1.00 +interest for that unfinished job! Dr. Ellis always found ways to make dentist visits fun, even when drilling in my head, joining my dad and I fishing on Lake Simcoe, I would sometimes tag along when he flew his airplanes, lighting candles with me at my Bar Mitzvah and the list goes on and on…. Always so kind and fun, thinking of Jack always brings a smile to my face, he will forever be in my memories. Sending boatloads of hugs from Nova Scotia...

Lynda, My deepest condolences to you and the family. It’s been many years since we’ve been in touch. Jack was our family dentist. He was always kind. We also had so many years of carpooling from Prince Edward to Associated Hebrew School on Leslie St., living around the corner from each other. Lots of memories with our kids being together. Jack was a fine and honorable man,and a sold community member. He made everyone smile with his sense of humour and kindness. He will be greatly missed.

Dear Lynda and Family, my deepest condolences on the loss of Jack. I have such fond memories of him and your family living as neighbors on Kingslake Rd. I'll always remember his words every time I sat in his dental chair "what's with the sad face, this isn't going to hurt!" I spent many Saturday evenings babysitting for you, Lynda would sneak me the key for her locked candy cupboard and would whisper "don't tell Jack." It was because of Jack that I became a Dental Assistant. He told me to come to his office and he would teach me everything I needed to know, he was incredibly kind, patient, and drilled me everyday on how chair side manner is of the utmost importance in dentistry. Jack will be missed by many, he truly was an incredible human whose life will be celebrated with wonderful warm memories by all his family & friends!

I'm so sorry that I have only just learned that Jack passed away a month ago. Lynda, you and he built such a successful dental practice that is still going strong because of the deep foundations of patient care which you and he established. One of my many happy memories of Jack is selecting an operatic aria to play while I was in the chair.
