It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of Jacob (Jake) Anhang on June 22, 2020.

Devoted husband of 55 years to Vivian. Loving Father and Father in Law to Moishe and Karen, Eli (ZL) and Michelle and Yael and Ami. Cherished brother of Bill, Abe and Ruth (ZL).Beloved Zaidy of Eliam and Benjamin, Eric and Zack and Yadid, Anaelle, Yoel and Gabrielle.

He will be greatly missed by all his nieces and nephews and the extended family.

Jacob Anhang was a sweet, gentle man that was interested in whatever you had to say. He would start a conversation with genuine love and care for the other person. He treated his family with the utmost respect and was very generous with everyone. He will be sorely missed.

It is with great sadness that we hear of the passing of Jake. He was a kind and gentle person with a wry sense of humor who will be missed by all. We've had the pleasure and honor of knowing him and Viviane as well as the rest of the Anhang family for over the last 20 years. It was always with joy that he greeted us when he came to Israel to visit his daughter Yael and her family, as he always made us feel part of his own family with his generosity. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Viviane, Mark and Yael and their respective families as well as Eli's z"l children, and we wish them courage and strength in these very difficult times. It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of Mr. Anhang, a kind and gentle gentleman. I am surprised as it was 3 short months ago I saw him at No Frills looking hale with a smile helping Mrs. Anhang do the shopping. We will always have fond memories of his smile and interested inquiries on the family. We share in your sadness especially Mrs. Anhang who was always at his side. Jake Anhang was the legendary strong man of Shaarei Tefillah Congregation. Not only does the CN Tower owe its existence to him as the Buyer of all the steel that went into it, Jake would routinely build his own steel tower inside the Sanctuary, personally assembling steel scaffolding with whomever he could enlist, and climbing it to reach the chandelier lights high up in the vaulted ceiling. If there was a job that required strength, superior know-how, and attention to detail, Jake was the man. Friendly, solicitous, wise, and awesome, way over the top volunteerism, that was Jake. He will be sorely missed. May his neshama have an aliyah, and may his partner in all the above, Vivian, and their children be comforted.

i had the privilege of meeting Mr. Anhang z"l only recently through the shul shiur. He had some great insights and we had some nice conversations after the class where he shared his life experience. He was very proud of a picture on the shul wall and I could see how much the shul meant to him. What struck me was his kindness, generosity and sensitivity, He was concerned about the shul plant in the foyer not getting enough water (or too much?)and took the time to advise me and inquire about how my own plant was doing. His love and respect for his wife was also apparent. Although my time knowing him was brief, his impact was large. He will be missed by many. May Mrs Anhang and family share strength at this difficult time.

Vivian, I am so deeply sorry for the loss of your soul-mate. Jake was not just a neighbour of our family, I had the zechut to see him weekly in shul growing up, sharing with him and you and your family over the so many years and having the honour with my late father, to be of professional service to him. He was always a mentch, a thoughtful and profound man. His concern for family, shul and klal yisrael was always evident. I know you will be comforted by the many with whom you and he shared your lives. May his memory serve as a blessing to you and all who knew him.

Baruch Dayan H'aemet, I am very sorry for the loss to your family. I always looked forward to seeing Jake at Shaarei Tefillah. At various meetings, I would try to sit next to him. I enjoyed hearing his stories and his perspective. Of course, I always looked forward to seeing him in the sanctuary on Shabbos, too He will be sincerely missed.

He taught me gratitude and joy and to be happy with what I had whenever I met him. He cared about everyone he met, and remembered details about their lives. I am so sorry to hear of Jake' s passing...As I grew up at the shul, I could see how Jake (then "Mr. Anhang") was at the centre of every discussion, involved with every shul event and all the while, brandishing a smile and being so kind. My father had always the most positive things to say about Jake, particularly concerning his selfless dedication to shul matters. My sincerest condolences...

Halia Pushkar (nee Dyryk)

I remember Jacob from Lord Selkirk High School in Winnipeg and then University of Manitoba,. He attended reunions and spoke of his furniture business and growing up near Higgins Avenue, where his dad had a grocery store. So sorry that Jacob is gone.
