Last Wednesday, December 27, 2023, I started a chat with my cousin about OHIP and cardiac recovery and rehab. Jeff informed me about the residency requirements and our mutual tax statuses for the next forty minutes. We shared why we were returning to Ontario after these many years. For him, it was simple: to return to be close to Lindsay and her family. In a prior chat, he mentioned the need for us to have some sort of family reunion; I agreed. As the oldest surviving male cousin of our generation, it's something that is increasingly obvious. We also briefly discussed cardiac rehab & recovery. Jeff said that he was going to stay with Sheila, then Michelle for awhile because he couldn't drive for a month. I remembered a prior discussion with him where he inquired about cardio rehab, but I thought he was just curious. Jeff and I shared our first Hebrew name, Yehiel. We were both named after our paternal great-grandfather (Louis Mordecai's father). I wish I could do something to help my cousins with the burden of grief having to bury their father (and father-in-law), their grandfather, and especially my cousins Sheila, Michelle, and Brenda, and their families. May the memory of the living Jeffrey always be a source of pride and comfort to you. May he continue to inspire you in everything you do. Shocking and far too soon. I've known Jeffrey for over 30 years. He always keep in touch and never forgot a birthday. Lindsay your father was proud to have you as his daughter. He spoke of you often with love. He also loved his sisters and brother in laws, Shelia, Brenda and Jerry and Michelle and Allan very deeply. He was so happy in his roll as Saba to Cole and Dillion. He would speak with such joy in his voice when he spoke of his grandsons. You all have been in my thoughts and prayers. I hope your beautiful memories give you some comfort as this difficult time.
