Michael, Shane and Zachary and Families; Jerry and Fran; I was shocked and saddened to read of Jody’s sudden passing. I have many memories of Jody from those Yuntiff dinners at Barry and Joan’s in the 70’’s and ‘80s: large, boisterous gatherings and long, wobbly tables groaning with everyone’s favourite foods that my aunt would note yearly, then insist on preparing forevermore. Lots of laughter and a little craziness, intermingled with jabs between spouses, scolding of children and squabbling siblings. An only child from a calm, orderly house, I loved every minute of it. I remember waiting in that kitchen for the Gefilte fish plates to serve, as Jody - dressed in her best biker chique - carefully arranged each piece of fish, carrot slice and lettuce leaf just so on the small plates, while my aunt muttered that this wasn’t a fancy restaurant, people were hungry, and just get the food on the table already! Without glancing up from her handwork, Jody wisecracked back “too bad - they’d just have to wait” since it was only her artistic plating “that makes this fish taste half-decent”. (Gefilte fish was one of the few dishes my aunt didn’t prepare by hand at the time.) Everyone laughed, and the tension was broken. A minor event, but a vivid memory. The tribute you wrote here to Jody captures this spirit, her creativity, love for fun, and pride in all of you May you each be surrounded by hundreds of such memories for every year shared with her, and draw comfort from these in the difficult days ahead.
