Joel was our first coach when we joined TSP. That year and every year he was a true mensch and a pleasure to be around with a smile always on his face. May his memory be a blessing to his family, friends and all who knew him. He will be missed.

Joel, we will miss your kind heart and positive attitude so much. You always took the time to speak to each and every person at family dinners. At Passover, it was sometimes over 30 people but you still greeted everyone and asked about their lives. You were always positive, smiling and laughing. We are shocked and saddened by this unexpected loss. We know you loved to be around family and we will all miss you at the dinner table.

My deepest condolences to the family. Joel’s happiness and positivity always showed with the warm smile on his face. Somewhere he is now playing ball and pitching without any pain or missed strikes. Joel will be greatly missed.

Jen, I am heartbroken at Joel's passing. When I started playing in TSP in the mid 80's, I remember Joel coming out to watch us ladies play and then after I took a decade off, upon returning in 2005, there he was, still keeping score and cheering us on. Joel was a true mensch. He was always there to give a good hug, kibbitz nonstop, and lend a hand to anyone who needed it in our league. Never a bad word about anyone. Jen, your dad was your biggest cheerleader, so proud of the player you were. His biggest joy was watching you on the diamond. Joel, I will truly miss you. Baruch Dayan Ha'Emet

You will be missed!

Joel was my coach as a very young, eager ball player. So patient and really wanted us to learn and have fun. He watched me grow up into an adult, playing against him, always with a smile, even while throwing strikes at me! I will always remember Joel with a smile., his infections laugh, warm heart and always calling it like it is. Joel is no doubt the MVP on his new team. Jen, thank you for always sharing your dad throughout our young ball years. His memory will last a lifetime. Rest in peace Mr. Berg.

Although I haven’t played with the guys from TSP for a while,, I have warm and humorous memories of Joel. Just a good team player and a very nice man,,and truly he was what we should all aspire to be like.

Dear Fern, Marcie, Robin,Shawn and Jenn. I was so sorry to hear of your dad's passing. Unfortunately, as Jenn may have told you, my mother's brother passed away Friday evening and the funeral was at 1pm Monday. As I have done for most of my aunts and uncles, I was asked to officiate at the funeral, which is why I would not have been able to join you if the #'s would have permitted. Although I was not close with your dad growing up, I had the good fortune to get to know him about 15 years ago. Like your dad, I am a baseball fanatic, and as I was growing older, I was able to join the Thornhill Slo Pitch Ulta-kucker league, even tho I lived in the heart of Toronto. In my first year your dad arranged for us to play on the same team, and in succeeding years I would see him out there almost every week. It gave us the opportunity to get to know each other. I played for about 2 seasons after your dad retired and I missed seeing him throughout the summer. Fern, Marcie and Robin, it's been a very long time since we have seen each other. I remember Sunday mornings as kids when we see each other, and probably shared waffles at your Bubbe and Zaidy's apartment. Atleast I would see Jenn at the ballpark some time. I know you will all miss your dad. He would always talk glowingly about you when I would see him at the ballpark. With the sun shining and the temperature a little warmer, your dad was probably thinking to himself as they laid him to rest 'it's a great day for a ballgame, let's play 2'.

To Jen and the entire Berg family: Sending you our very deepest condolences upon hearing of Joel's passing. Many good times have occurred in our connections with Joel in our 45 years of wonderful association. He had a heart of gold and would do anything for any one if it were at all possible.
