Josef Braverman
July 8, 1938 – December 20, 2024
With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Josef Braverman, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Joseph passed away peacefully on December 20, 2024, at the age of 86. He was deeply loved by all his family, friends, and those fortunate enough to have known him.
Born in Kaunas, Lithuania on July 8, 1938, Joseph immigrated to Israel in 1971 and later moved to Toronto, Canada, in 1985. He was a visionary and a highly respected engineer in the field of plastics. As the founder of Jatan Plastics, he designed and revolutionized the road construction industry, creating the durable road construction barrels and barricades that are seen on highways across Canada to this day. Joseph’s work earned him admiration from all who knew him professionally, and he was recognized as a leader in his field.
Joseph’s legacy extends far beyond his professional achievements. He was a man of warmth, humor, intelligence, and kindness. He had a generous heart and would do anything for the people he loved, especially his two sons, Jack Braverman (and wife Lisa) and Eitan Braverman (and wife Katerina). He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Janetta Braverman, and a proud grandfather to his seven grandchildren: Jessica, Natalie, Ryan, Joshua, Seth, Ezekiel, and Eden.
He was a true mensch—a man of integrity, compassion, and loyalty. Joseph was not only a brilliant engineer but also a cherished friend to many, always offering a listening ear, a thoughtful piece of advice, or a good laugh. His ability to light up a room with his wit and charm will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Joseph is also survived by his dear brother, Tuvia Braverman, and was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Esther and Yacov Braverman.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2024, at 12:30. Following the service, the family will observe Shiva at the Braverman residence, 32 Loma Vista Dr, Thornhill, ON, where family and friends are welcome to gather to remember and celebrate his life.
May his memory be a blessing, and may his soul be bound up in the bond of life. Zikhrono Livrakha.
