It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Henry Gertner on Wednesday, June 26 at age 77. Henry passed away peacefully at Humber River Hospital with his daughter Jori by his side and surrounded by family in the days and hours prior.

Devoted husband of the late Cheryle Gertner, son of the late Berek and Regina Gertner, and son-in-law of the late David and Helen Gurevitch. Brother and brother-in-law of Eric Gertner and the late Elinor Gertner and Marlene Brickman and the late Michael Brickman. Beloved father and father-in-law to Elissa and Dov Atlin, Jori and Asher Lichtman, and Terry and Iris Gertner. Incredible Zayda to Rylan and Shayne Atlin, Lielle, Gave, and Elie Lichtman, and Alexis, David, and Olivia Gertner. Loving brother-in-law to Karen and Bryant Cowan. Henry will be greatly missed by all, including cousins, nieces and nephews, and dear friends.

Henry lived a beautiful and full life. He had a fulfilling career as a real estate lawyer that spanned 36 years, enjoyed exciting travels, and was passionate about history, geography, politics, and current events. He loved the Jewish homeland of Israel, poker, a good sitcom, and an even better meal.
Henry was generous, loving, charming, and possessed a tremendous sense of humour. His most prized treasures were his grandkids – or as he called them, his critters. He charmed his way into the hearts of everyone he met – from lifelong friends to Baycrest staff, and everyone in between. He only wanted the best for everyone and took a genuine interest in everyone’s lives.

Henry’s family extends their sincere thanks to the staff at Baycrest where he lived for the past three years, and the nurses, doctors, and staff at Humber River Hospital who cared for him during his last week.

Shiva will be held at the home of Jori and Asher Lichtman at 27 Viewmount Avenue, Toronto.

Memorial donations may be made to the Baycrest Foundation 416-785-2875 or to Canadian Magen David Adom (https://www.cmdai.org/en/).
