We regret to announce the death on 19 Elul, 10th Sept 2017, at the age of 99, of Joseph Joseph (nee Josefovic) at North York General Hospital, after a brief illness.

From a young yeshiva bocher in Kilahelmets, Slovakia, to a work camp inmate, Yossi survived the war, along with his brothers, A”H, Harry, Boomie, Moshe, and Moritz. After the war, he owned and operated a hat shop, until being forced to flee to Austria when the Communists took over Czechoslovakia. For 10 months, he helped support logistics in a US Army-run DP camp. He and Feigi married in 1946 and were originally hoping to go on Aliya to Israel, before actually arriving in Canada in 1951. They settled initially in Hamilton, where Janice and Susan were born. From that time, until a few years ago, he was actively involved in supporting or running shuls in Hamilton and Toronto, including several stints as President of Beth Jacob Synagogue, in Bathurst Manor.

He leaves his wife of 71 years, yibadla l’chaim, Feigi, children Janice & Albert Kirshen, and Susan & Isaac Ginz; grandchildren Chayim & Erin, Aliza & Choni, Michelle & Dan, and Melissa & Mike; and his great-grandchildren Ma’ayan, Adi, Jonah, Lielle, Ami, Cole, Jaimie, Shai and Elad.The family wishes to thank the staff of North York General Hospital, most especially the Palliative Care
