At 7:35 pm on November 3, 2022 Joy Maureen Stein passed away after a long battle.
She was an amazingly accomplished woman. She graduated Medical school in 1950 and subsequently became the First female Chair of Radiology in Johannesburg. She was lovingly known as the ‘ayatollah of the Isdaley republic’ at work. She had high standards. That being said her staff respected and indeed loved her, because she cared and stood up for them.
Above all her professional achievements Joy was a loving and supportive wife to her late husband, Lennie Stein.
Mother to Gwen, Brenda and Mark , their spouses and her 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
She is survived by her sister Pam.
She was a Bridge teacher, seamstress, jewelry maker and cook. She did not tolerate fools easily.
Joy made the most of life until her last years. She lived in South Africa,London, Israel and Canada with equal interest and enjoyment. She recreated herself in each place where she adapted and made friends.
Our heartfelt thanks to the compassionate and outstanding care from the the staff on the 2nd floor at Advent Valleyview. A special thank you from the bottom of our hearts to her amazing and patient Caregiver Lorena and Grace. Your care and love for Joy was evident every day.
Joy, may you rest in peace, at last.
