Judy Rachel Berger

I worked with Judy at a federal election polling station a few years ago. It was such a privilege to meet her and to be in her presence. Her warmth, humanity and empathy confirmed to me that she was a fine lady with a great and good soul. Thank you Judy

I am deeply saddened to hear of Judy's passing. I extend my sincere condolences to her beloved family and friends. Judy, was such a positive spirit and her commitment and love for our community was felt by many of us. I felt it personally. I am so thankful to the time that Judy generously donated to our Community Food Tables initiative as a volunteer. She had a passionate sense of humour and will be greatly missed.

Judy and I met 4 years ago at a Centre for Independent Living in Toronto (CILT) event and one of the qualities that always impressed me about Judy is that she always made sure that everyone had what they needed and overall felt included in whatever was happening. If Judy didn’t like what she saw. She let you know. Judy definitely had chutzpah. Judy checked in with me regularly and often sent me resources that could be useful to people with disabilities. Judy was definitely a Resourceful and knowledgeable lady. Thank you Judy for your conversations, your resourcefulness and your drive for all people with disabilities to feel and be included at all times. You will be missed. Robin Simmons CILT Staff

TRAGIC DEATH OF OUR BELOVED JUDY DIED SEPT 02 BARRIED OCT 10 WHERE WAS HER EXTENDED FAMILY? I AM SO SORRY WE FAILED HER!!

My deepest condolences to the family and friends of Judy. July was a deeply caring person who spread joy to those around her. We loved having her at ELLICSR and providing input on our programs and encouraging other cancer survivors along the way. She was a special person and will be missed.

I met Judy in 2012 while working at ELLICSR (Electronic Living Lab In Cancer Survivorship Research). I liked her instantly. Although she had many amazing qualities- intelligence, compassion, integrity, articulate, quick witted, brilliant sense of humour, to name but a few-it was her kindness that made her the extra-ordinary person I was privileged to know. Be it helping at “Out of the Cold” every week, for years, or manning the volunteer desk at a hospital, Judy always made time to help others in need. Full stop. She asked for nothing in return, but gave freely of herself. If you were looking for a wallflower, Judy was NOT the person. She spoke her mind at all times, doing so in the hopes of improving our world with every word she spoke. I will miss our 6 am calls (being early risers, I thought we could begin our days with a call, only to learn her days began at 4:30 am!). I’ll miss our meetings at Longos on St Clair where we celebrated her ability to drink fluids by mouth once again after having major surgery that had forced her to be tube fed for months. I’ll miss her telling me to not work so hard, always watching out for others, more than herself. I’m smiling as I write this tribute to her, knowing exactly what she would be saying if she could hear these words. Without a doubt she would dismiss anything that felt like a compliment, smiling while her blue eyes twinkled. Judy has left this world, but the sparkle she ignited in so many people’s hearts and minds will live on. May her memory be a blessing.

Darling sweet friend, I will never forget you. I am so happy I had the opportunity to meet you in my life. I learned so much from you.; Your kindness, your wisdom, forever engraved in my heart and mind. I wish I was at your funeral. But maybe better like this, as I believe your wonderful spirit is somewhere with God. May the Light of the Universe be with guiding you to internal life. Was very sad for me to see all that soil being shoveled into your grave. Glad I could be present and watched live-streamed. I think of you all the time. I see you waking on the sidewalk and stop to greet me. I remember our last coffee together just a few days before you left this world. My sincere condolences to all your friends...I love you!

Dear Judy always came by with a hug, a chuckle & a sweet into my pocket. Always full of energy, despite health challenges. Mt Sinai was the better because of her. 'Gramma Moses', we miss you.

Judy will be missed by many, including my daughter and I. I am a better person for having known her and volunteered with her and had her in my life. Rest in Peace Judy I'll miss you greatly.

Judy will be missed by many she was an amazing woman. Everyone who knew her has a story to tell. She was an instant friend when she met you, You felt like you had known her for years. Her smile, her humor and strength will always be remembered May her memory be a blessing to all

We went to Jewish restauants with Judy. We always had a great time with her, even though the staff thought it was pretty funny that Judy stood all the time because of her bad back. We loved eating all the old-style eastern-European foods we grew up with, and Judy would tell us stories of her childhood.

'Grandma Moses, Judy, or JB' was a force not to be reckoned with. She wore many hats at Mount Sinai and within the community. She was always readily available to assist with the Staff Flu Campaign and selling Daffodils for Canccer Reaearch, She would even go around to many of the Doctors who would readily give donations to her. She was ready, willing and able to assist wherever we needed her help. She will be sorely missed and I will hold her memories in my heart ❤ always. RIP Grandma Moses.

I knew Judy through her work as a volunteer. In addition to her work with the TTC for people with disabilities, she worked for our MP even though this required standing for hours. We will all miss you, Judy
