On Thursday, June 10, 2021, Judy Silberstein, devoted Wife of the late Mordechai (Mordy)
Silberstein, passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 73. Loving Mother and Mother-in-law
of Daniel Silberstein, Ilaneet and Shlomi Vandersman, Shlomi and Justine Silberstein. Dear Sister of
Mary Batalion, and Isobel and Marc Lustig. Cherished Safta of Adam, Mia, Mika, and Kai. Favorite
Aunt to Moshe, Tal, Avi, Bryan, and Carly, and Great Aunt to nine great nieces and nephews.
When we think of Judy we think of kindness and caring; courage and strength; dignity and grace.
Judy’s love and devotion to her family was only matched by her tremendous appreciation for life,
Yiddishkite, and all the friends she met along the way. Her friends adopted themselves into her
family! She remembered everyone’s names, their birthdays, graduations, their friends and relatives
….. all without the aid of a computer or smart phone to remind her. Her memory of people and
their stories was legendary – but don’t ask her what she ate for breakfast.
Eighteen years ago Judy was diagnosed with cancer, and so began her long – and miraculous –
journey. She lived her life fully, alongside cancer, and chemo treatments. Judy often said: “I have
cancer, but cancer doesn’t have me.” Sadly, her fierce battle with her illness came to an end this
week. Judy and her family are forever grateful to the multitude of doctors, nurses, technicians,
administrators, orderlies, and more, who cared for her with gentle and loving devotion. And of
course, Judy knew each member of the Princess Margaret team by name, including their children,
and which holiday they were planning next. She was one of a kind.
In her calm and accepting way, Judy’s was the soothing voice of reason that we all turned to for
guidance and understanding. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. Special thanks
to her devoted caregivers, Mila and Jenny, who lovingly helped make it possible for her to remain in
her home, as she wished. A family graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 10, 2021.
