Landyn Schaffer

I still can’t process that this is actually what’s happened. Landyn was always exceptionally kind and supportive to me. He was one of the brightest, funniest, and kindest people I knew, and I’m sure anyone else who knew him would agree with me. I can’t emphasize enough how tragic this really is. The goals he shared with me and my girlfriend, as well as the genuine desire he showed to improve his life and achieve those goals has not left my mind for a moment since I’ve heard the news. He deserved his chance to make those goals a reality and finally create the life that he always wanted. The fact that this chance was ripped away from him when he was so young, and at a time when he was beginning to feel so optimistic about life will never leave my mind. All I hope for now is that both Landyn and his family find the peace that they deserve. I’m so incredibly sorry for your loss

Landyn, we weren’t very close but I always admired you for your kindness, optimism & charismatic personality, you were one of a kind! I'm having a difficult time believing that this promising young life was cut far too short. I am truly heartbroken and devastated with this news. To have know Landyn, is to have loved him. He was an incredibly bright, loving and intelligent young man. He had an incredible smile that would brighten any room. He had a zest for life and was well versed in an array of topics. My family and I are blessed to have gotten to know him. My heart goes out to you Sheryl, Doug, Jeremy and along with the rest of the family. Landyn's memory will always live in our hearts.

Landyn was my best friend. We met during a very pivotal time in my life and clicked instantly. He was the most compassionate, caring, thoughtful, funny and charismatic person I had ever met. He always knew how to make those around him feel happy and loved and always knew the right thing to say. He introduced me to an entire new world and continues to be an inspiration in every aspect of my life. Most importantly he taught me how to live life to the fullest. I wish I gotten to do more for him. You always made sure I could count on you. To all the trips and concerts we never got to go to, to all the long talks we'll never have, to all the movies we'll never get to judge, to say I am devastated is an understatement. The most beautiful people often endure the greatest hardships and Landyn was no exception. There was no reason for him to be as kind, encouraging and sincere as he was - yet he was every bit of that and more to every person he met. Landyn would have us howling with laughter at his antics and I will cherish every second I spent with him. He was just happy to share his life with all of us and we can never fill the void he left behind. When Beckett Sennecke tallies 100 points and the Ducks are deep in the playoffs we will all be smiling and looking up. We love you Landyn.

Even though we haven’t met in person I feel like we’ve been good friends for years. You were the coolest guy I’ve ever met in my life. Such a down to earth and genuine person who I could talk about literally anything to. I’ll miss our talks about random NHL players at 5am, and our lando connections. I love you buddy ❤️

Always quick to retort with a joke, and very eloquent, he had a talent for writing and proved himself to have limitless potential. He made me feel understood, even in dark times. To describe the sheer loss of Landyn is something that I, along with many others cannot possibly put into words. Landyn was a person who inspired others, whether by showing leadership in difficult situations, helping others through difficult times, or simply lending a helping hand to those in need. I think It is important to specify that many people have these traits, however Landyn took this to another level transcending anyone’s beliefs of what it means to be a good, honest, and caring person. Anyone who has been blessed to have met Landyn will know how much knowledge he held on so many different topics, knowledge that came at a great cost. The mere fact that Landyn was able to use these past experiences to help others despite the hardships he has been through will always remain nothing short of an act of complete selflessness and true bravery. I only wish that he could be here to understand how astronomical his impact has been on everyone around him. I know Landyn is in a better place, somewhere he can rest knowing he has genuinely made our world a better place. I wish nothing but peace towards his family, whom have shown me such kindness over the years.

To all of Landyn’s family, friends and former educators- you have left an imprint on our hearts and we all mourn your loss. Landyn was a creative, inquisitive student that consistently asked existential questions and challenged the status quo. He was never belligerent-on the contrary, he judged wanted to know why things were done a certain way and why it had to be so. Landyn had an infectious smile and valued his friends and his teachers. He was always polite and caring. His bright eyes would light up a room. When he came to the office, it was impossible to be upset with him-he was just a caring person and always had some complicated, logical reason to explain what he did or did not do! During one of my Graduation speeches, I spoke of Steve Jobs who could not be restrained within the walls that society built. I said that many students wanted to break the rules and those walls and go on to achieve. Well Landyn did not want to break down the walls! He refused to believe they existed! He wanted to live on his own terms. His charming smile, gentle eyes and excellent communication skills made us question our institutions and beliefs. Landyn always did it in a respectful, caring way-but he never left you off the hook! He was such a spiritual student, totally absorbed in trying to make sense of the world order. I am sorry Landyn that I could not find you the answers that you sought. What I do know is that your LH Frechette family and your family and friends mourn your loss. I firmly believe that you are in a better place now and I hope you have found the peace and answers you craved so much. Rest in peace Landyn.

Landyn was a friend in which however long our separation, upon rejoicing back together, it felt as if we never skipped a beat. Together we planned our future, wrote comical s, & created mini films from scratch, acting out fictional characters. The fire that burns beneath me to carry out my ambitions, is given only by true friends like Landyn. Through all our ups and downs, we never thought twice nor held back from giving each other honest advice even if it was harsh to hear. I won’t ever be able to replace Landyn’s seat at my table, & will I never forget the feeling it of being in a room with Landyn‘s presence.
