Lawrence Morgenstern:  10 Mar 1960 – 27 Feb 2022

The gentle giant who made legions of people laugh.  Lawrence devoted his life to studying and perfecting humour.

Beloved by audiences for his stand up, Lawrence’s performances and writing received numerous accolades and awards including two Genie nominations.  Lawrence was a comic’s comic.  He was able to unearth key humour in ideas that others knew was there but could not find on their own.  Lawrence was professionally lauded for his own capabilities, but also respected and recognized in the community for his universal and unstinting support for other comics and entertainers.

The tenth of ten children, Lawrence was a devoted son to Freda and Sam, brother to Judy, Tully, Naomi, Gloria, Sheila and Shlomo Mendel, Eleanor, Andrea, Moishe and Sarah, and Brenda and Isaac Kopmar.  He was a devoted and loving husband to Ros Gelade, and a loyal and loving friend to many.  Lawrence loved his family dearly.  He leaned on them in difficult times and was always deeply committed and loyal in return:  Family is the group that made him laugh the most.  Being the youngest in a large family, Lawrence grew up with many of his nieces and nephews who each loved and adored him.

Lawrence leaves us far too soon.  The days count far too few, but the joy that Lawrence has brought to this world is immeasurable.  We are all the better for having experienced his incredible humanity, and his incredible humour.
