Our dear and beloved Leon Pinto passed away on June 23, 2021 just before midnight. He died peacefully in the hospital while surrounded by his four children.

Leon was born in Tangiers, Morocco on October 19, 1934. He devoted his life to his family, friends and to his passion for Orthodox Judaism and for his beloved Tiferet Israel Congregation. He was a man of faith with the highest of values and he always went above and beyond to make sure that everyone near him was comfortable and happy. He was a light to all that had the pleasure of knowing him and a symbol of strength, perseverance and avodat Hashem le shem shamayim.

Leon is survived by his wife Sol, by his children Flora, Estrella, Esther and Aron, by his son in laws Ken, Jeff and Aaron, by his daughter in law Angelica, by his grandchildren Diana, Jay, Lisa, Amanda, David, Joey, Elizabeth, Leora, Jennifer, Jacob, Sarah, Leon and Alex, by his great grandchild Ryan and by his siblings Liliane Abecassis and Victor Pinto.

Funeral services will be held at Bathurst Lawn Memorial on June 24, 2021 at 1:30 PM with Rabbi Zrihen officiating, but due to covid restrictions only immediate family will be present. A Zoom broadcast will be available as well.

Shiva services will take place at 224 Codsell Avenue as follows:

Thursday 7-9 PM

Friday 10 AM – 12 PM

Sunday-Tuesday 2-5 PM and 7-9 PM

Flora will be sitting Shiva at 34 Rose Green Drive, Thornhill in the backyard, proper distancing & masks.

Visits: Thursday: 7-9 p.m. Friday: 2-4 p.m. Sunday-Monday 2-4 p.m. & 7-9 p.m., Tuesday 2-4 p.m.

Mincha/Ma’ariv Services: Thursday: 7:10 p.m., Sunday: 6:45 p.m., Monday: 7:10 p.m

Donations can be made to Tiferet Israel Congregation at 416-633-1874, to Parkinson’s Canada at 416-227-9700 or to Baycrest at 416-785-2875. May the neshama of this great and wonderful man loved by so many rest peacefully in Gan Eden.

Dear Tita Sol, Flora, Estrella, Esther, Aron and the rest of the family - there are no words to express how sad we are that Tito Leon has crossed to be with his parents and brother. Hashem waited for him and he was obviously needed. He was the kindest, sweetest soul who loved his family and friends immensely. He always had a smile and he never complained despite all the pain he endured. Always so positive and loving. I will never forget last year how Tita Sol always made sure Tito Leon would call my mom to give her a Misheberach for a Refuah Schlema when my mom was going through her treatment. Despite how hard it was for him to get on the phone he never missed an opportunity to bless my mom, my dad, me and the rest of the family. That touched us so much and we will never forget it - THANK YOU. Tito Leon - may your Neshama rest in Peace and may you watch over your beautiful family - especially Tita Sol - your soul mate who loves you beyond. Thank you for all you did for the shul and despite your difficulties you always kept your faith. We all love you and will miss you mucho. May your memory continue to be a blessing forever and always. Sol, your beloved husband has left your side, but your children and their children will be there for you always to help nourish his memory. May HaShem bless you all in this time of grief, and may he give you all the strength to move forward together as a family. The future right now may seem empty, but Leon would never want it to remain that way for long. His strength to deal with his life's circumstances, should be an example for us all to emulate.
