Louis Whitehouse (born October 5, 1924 in Rozsàly, Hungary; died December 22, 2015 in Toronto, Canada). He is survived by his best friend and companion, Susan Stevens; his daughter, Dot Whitehouse; his sister, Magda Berger (the late Harvey Berger); his many nieces and nephews and their families; and the newest light of his life, Sawyer Stevens. Louis was predeceased by his brother, Eugene Whitehouse (Agi Whitehouse), and his sister, Edith Weiss (the late Ernie Weiss). Louis was a Holocaust survivor who never failed to express his gratitude for the life he was able to create after coming to Canada. His chosen career in real estate and land development afforded him the opportunity to use his capacity for future-thinking, dreaming, and connecting people to help others realize their own visions and successes, as farms became communities and older areas were renewed. A devout man, he found both a spiritual and intellectual home at the Beth Tzedec Synagogue in Toronto where he engaged with a welcoming community in the study and practice of his faith, as well as his passion for ancient history. A modest and humble man, Louis was known for quietly helping others without seeking attention for himself. To the end, he was surprised at how many people genuinely cared about him, at how many lives he had touched. Our family would like to thank the staff of both the Assess and Restore program and the Palliative Care Unit of Bridgepoint Health for their tender care. Memorial donations in Louis’ honour may be made to the Beth Tzedec Synagogue (Toronto) Adult Education Program. Shiva private.
