Lucy Lea Zaiontz, RN (nŽe Shusterman) died surrounded by her family in her home on Friday, January 2, 2015 in Thornhill, Ontario at the age of 62.rnLucy is survived by her husband, Jeff, her daughters, Adina and Keren, her son, Daniel, her sister, Maya, her brother, Eli, and her grandchildren, Sophia, Nathan, and Samantha. She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Joseph and Clara Shusterman.rnLucy was born on April 14, 1952 in Moscow. Lucy, her mother, father, and siblings immigrated to Israel from the former Soviet Union in 1974. In Israel, Lucy pursued her undergraduate studies at the Technion Institute of Technology where she met Jeff who was also a student there. They married in Haifa in 1975 and her daughters, Adina and Keren, were born soon thereafter. In 1982, Lucy, Jeff and their daughters immigrated to Canada and her son, Daniel, was born in Toronto in the years following. Lucy pursued further studies at Seneca College where she earned a nursing diploma in 1994. For more than a decade, Lucy, proudly served as a nurse with the University Health Network working at Toronto Western Hospital.rnLucy was a strong, passionate woman. Most importantly, Lucy was a loving mom who cared and believed in her kids and inspired and supported them in every step of their lives. Her family will feel and remember her love always. rnIn 2013, Lucy was diagnosed with liposarcoma, a disease she fought courageously until the end. A funeral is scheduled for Sunday, January 4 at 2:45 p.m. Steeles Memorial Chapel (350 Steeles Avenue West). The shiva will be held immediately following the funeral (until 9 p.m.) at 52 Edenbridge drive in Thornhill, continuing on Monday (1-4:30 p.m. and 6-9 p.m.) and Tuesday (6-9 p.m.).
