Marjorie Segal
March 14 1933-April 30 2022

Marjorie Segal (nee Adair) slipped away peacefully in her sleep in her 90th year. She was a devoted mother to Sandy Segal (John Miller), Myra Segal  (Neil Purcell) and Bob (Dr. Robert Segal). Grandmother to Chloe and Meiling Segal, with their mother Heidi Hatch. Aunty Marge to many. The family is grateful for the months of loving care from Neil that allowed her to live her last days at home. Marge grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba where she met her husband, Morry (Skee) Segal at Assiniboine Downs racetrack. In the late 50s, they relocated to Toronto to begin their family, and as a team they picked enough winners at the track to put a down payment on a house in Bathurst Manor. It was there that Marge discovered her love of gardening, and transformed our suburban backyard into a magical space filled with fruit trees and colourful gardens. It attracted regular visits by birds, squirrels and neighbourhood dogs (Golda, she adored). She particularly enjoyed rescuing plants discarded by others and nurturing them back to glory with her devoted attention. She welcomed all friends warmly into our home and ‘Mim’ became a confidante  to many. She was a talented artist, a lover of classical music and a cryptic crossword maven. We remember her sewing our dresses and pantsuits, some with bell-bottoms and amazing colourful fabrics that felt so special to wear.

She will always be remembered as a special being  who “felt” everything intensely and was acutely sensitive to all life threw her way…sometimes  to her detriment. Fly free of pain…finally dear Ma.
