Dear Sam and Family, I have just heard the very sad news about Marla's passing. Marla and I have been friends since the Camp B'nai Brith days. What a gang we were! I recently (in the past 12 years) reconnected with Marla through our Yoga Dance group. Marla was alway a caring, compassionate woman who loved her children and grandchildren, and all children. May her memory be a blessing. Take care and be well.

It is with great sadness that I learned of Marla's passing today. my son Ben, her Son-in-law, and wife Gill, Marla's daughter are obviously so devastated at the news and being so far away leaves them feeling so helpless in Grief. I hope that it is some comfort to Sam that Gill has finally managed to battle through the Covid restrictions from the UK to get to his side, to share their grief with the rest of the family. Sadly, I did not know Marla well myself, only meeting at Ben and Gills wedding but I know how much she meant to her grandchildren who loved her very much it may be hard for them to understand what this means at this time but I know that Ben and Gill will keep her memory strong for them in the years to come. Dear Sam and the entire Family, I was so very saddened to see this news today and can’t believe you are burying both your Mother and wife in just a few short months. I only had the honour of meeting Marla once at your home-I remember she was very friendly and bubbly. I have heard about her illness over the years-I was really hoping she would get through this. Marla was very talented-her beautiful art work with pieces of mirrors and a teddy bear is still hanging in my daughter’s room. I will always think of her when I see it now. I am so very sorry for your great loss and wish for you only Simchas in the future. May you find strength in all the beautiful memories you have made together over the years.

Dear Sam I am so sorry to hear that Marla has passed. My sincere condolences. She was a strong person who brought out the best in people around her. I will always cherish the memories of hanging out in Toronto on my breaks from University with both of you and of course we all got to see both of you for the wedding of Alex & Sergio. We have all lost a bright star and I am sure that you and your children and grandchildren will miss her very much. Losing a partner at such a young age is so hard to handle. She has touched many hearts and many souls and she will be missed. May she finally rest in peace after her long health battles. Love and condolences from all of us in Montreal as well as from Mom and Jojo and family in Israel

We are heartbroken to hear the news of Marla’s passing. Marla entered our lives by helping us out when we were in a bind trying to find a daycare for Naya. Right away, her passion for children was abundantly obvious and we knew we part of something bigger than a daycare. She and Sam have become a huge part of our lives. She referred to herself as pseudo-grandmother to Naya and it was very true. She has left a lasting impact on our lives and her strength, perseverance and kind-heartedness will never be forgotten. To Sam and the rest of Marla’s family, we send you our deepest condolences and our thoughts and prayers during this trying time.

Marla's love of people, and especially her joyful care for children were powerful. Our family was blessed to be part of Kinder Grove, a place she created which brought such happiness and wonderful relationships into our lives. We haven't been there for years now, but the friendships and connections we made there, especially with Marla, continued and are still a strong part of our lives. I will miss the little things like texting her a dumb joke or a picture of my kids, and talking about what was going on in the neighbourhood. She had a way of making people feel important, and we will miss her so much.

Marla was exceptional. The story Marc told about her scribbling to make him laugh was so … Marla! Years ago when she asked me for a testimonial for KinderGrove since all 3 of my kids went to Viewmount Tiny Tots, I wrote that “Children that were labelled as troublemakers elsewhere were viewed by her as children with fascinating personalities waiting to be unleashed”. She saw the positives in everyone. I got to know her well through Viewmount, and saw that as much as she adored each child, she spoke so often of Gillian and Marc and their exploits with intense love and pride. The love she had for her husband and close family was evident. The outpouring of kind words on this site is a testament to the many people she touched, as well as the many toddlers whose development she shaped. I am so sorry for your tremendous loss.

Dear Sam and Family - We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Marla. We feel so lucky to have been part of the Kinder Grove family. I remember the warmth we shared in every interaction... and when I called her to tell her that I was pregnant with Matias... I remember that she joked about how she often found out about pregnancies before the family... and when Trevor was diagnosed with cancer in 2019, she had a deeply personal and meaningful conversation with him... she truly was a special person. She was always so warm and kind and loving - my children thrived at Kinder Grove and it was most certainly because of her philosophy and love of children.

Dear Sam Marc and the entire family. Marla was a shining light of the most beautiful, caring , loving snd funny person. She was the first teacher my twins Matthew abs Sarah had at viewmount. . I was lucky enough to know her in advance because she had taught and cared for all 3 of my sister Diane’s kids and the two of them had a special relationship. She put every parent at ease and put her entire heart and soul into her program and the kids.. I feel lucky to have had the experience of her genuine warmth and humour you all spoke about. She was a one of a kind. We also had the pleasure of having Marc work alongside with her. You guys were a duo. Our family will remember her always. We will speak about her and Herberman and the Chicks and the customized Pizza boxes the kids got at the end of the year that we still have. May her memories be a blessing and a source of comfort. We are sending heartfelt condolences to the entire family. Marla will be in our hearts forever. Michele, Stuart, Matthew and Sarah

We are still in shock and utterly heartbroken. We are so so sorry Sam (and family). From day 1, her welcoming, warm energy immediately made us feel like family to KG and by extension, her staff felt like family to us too. Always looking out for us, she would email us over and beyond daycare matters - when I injured my knee, she connected me to doctors and friends who have had knee surgery and when we moved to Ottawa, she connected us to families who recently moved here and reminded us that a small piece of home is here with Pi.Co. Her daycare felt like a true community, not a business where she genuinely cared for all of the children, our Rosie included. We feel very very fortunate to have been touched by Marla and we will carry on her memory and legacy in how we raise our children. Our sincerest of condolences, sending you the biggest of hugs Sam and holding your family and KG close in our hearts. Rest in paradise, Marla. We love you.

Dear Sam, Marc, Amanda and family, I just learned today about Marla's passing. I am so saddened by your loss. I, like so many others who wrote messages loved Marla and her generosity of spirit, humour and ability to see the beautiful in everyone. She was a truly unique person in her outlook on life and people. Others, especially children were sparks for her to ignite her love for them and she shared that love so openly. We were part of her Viewmount Tiny Tots community and she welcomed us in. In particular she paid attention to each child and took personal interests in each one. I won't ever forget her helping me (and me helping her) to understand our son's autism. She accompanied me to many meetings when I asked her to come with me and I was always comforted by her presence. She wanted to learn and understand as much as she could. She was much loved and cherished, and will never be forgotten. Connie Putterman, David, Ely and Liora Golden
