My deepest heart felt condolences to the entire family on the profound loss of our Matt... our Grandpa. Words are not sufficient to describe the sadness and grief that his loss brings. I will never forget his larger than life personality, his incredible sense of humor, his bright wide-eyed handsome smile that lit up the room, his ability to talk to anyone and make everyone feel comfortable in his presence, his kindness, his warmth, and his huge loving heart. Times at the pool; his amazing BBQs, his incredible world famous spaghetti the recipe of which has now been passed down to my son Joel's expertise; his stories of life, family and adventure; his always being there unwaveringly for his children and his grandchildren, his undying love for his family. There will never be another Matthew. There will never be another Grandpa. My son, Joel Malchiondo and my daughter Julia Malchiondo who were incredibly close to their Grandpa their entire lives and were by his side right through his illness and the very last moments of his life and loved him with all their beings, will never forget him or stop missing him. Neither will I. He lives on in them and in all of our memories. My love and prayers go out to Marilyn, Matt's wife and lifelong partner for strength and healing during this time of profound grief and loss. May time and the love and support of friends and family bring a measure of peace and healing to us all. May his memory be for a blessing.

He had an amazing knack of making people feel comfortable and at ease with him. The love he felt for his family was so evident. Marilyn, you and Matt have been such great role models to your kids as a committed, strong couple, and they in turn are passing this down to their children. Russell, Madeline, Ian, Joel and Julia are so lucky to have build a repertoire of memories and stories of Matt that they will share with others for years to come. A letter from heaven To my dearest family, some things, I’d like to say… But first of all, to let you know, that I arrived here okay. I am writing this from heaven, here I dwell with God above. Here, there’s no more tears of sadness; just eternal love, Please don’t be unhappy just because I am out of sight. Remember that I am with you every morning, noon, and night. That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through, God picked me up and hugged me, and He said, “ I welcome you,” It is good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone. As for your dearest family, they’ll be here later on. I need you here badly; you are part of my plan. There is so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man. God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do. And foremost, on the list, was to watch and care for you. And when you lie in bed at night, the days chores are put to flight. God and I are closest to you…in the middle of the night. When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years, because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears. But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain. Remember, there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain. I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned. But if I were to tell you, you wouldn’t understand. But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is over. I am closer to you now, then all I ever was before. There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb; but together we can do it by taking one day at a time. It was always my philosophy, and I’d like it for you too… That, as you give onto the world, the world will give to you. If you can help somebody who is in sorrow and pain, then you can say to God at night… My day was not in vain. And now I am content… That my life has been worthwhile, knowing I have passed along the way, I have made somebody smile. So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low, just lend a hand to pick them up, and on your way you go. When you are walking down the street, and you have got me on your mind; I am walking in your footsteps only half a step behind. And when it’s time for you to go…from that body to be free, remember, you are not going… You are coming here to me!

Dear Paula: I am learning that your dad was a great host, chef , father, grandfather, husband and uncle. You are a very fortunate daughter to have a dad like that. I hope the all of the happy memories give you the strength to get through this most difficult time

I wanted to pass on my condolences to Marilyn and family. Marilyn is my first cousin and we grew up fifty yards from each other. We were very close and she, and later Matt, looked after me often in my latchkey days. I can still taste the hot dogs and fries. I was always so pleased that she and Matt found each other. I loved the way that the two of them interacted, often teasingly and with the needle, but always with love. Any time we hung together was a good time. Mostly, I remember Matt with Rhonda, and he was an amazing, proud dad. And, I remember our lively sports conversations and going together to Maple Leaf ballgames at the old Fleet Street flats or taking in Leafs hockey. He was one of a kind and I’m sure will be missed terribly.
