STONE, Mildred – Peacefully on Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at North York General Hospital at the age of 101. Mildred Stone, beloved wife of the late Philip. Loving mother and mother-in-law of Jay and Sandy Stone, Doug Stone, and Glen Stone and Allison Findlay. Cherished Bubbie of Ben, Laura, Rachael, and Charlotte, and Great Bubbie of Archie. Memorial donations may be made to Boys Town Jerusalem at 416- 789-7241.

Aunt Mildred was one of a kind. She was the epitome of the genteel, regal, grand lady. Through my attachment to her niece, Dolly, with whom I shared several wonderful years, I had the privilege to see and meet wth her on many occasions. As it happened, later in her wonderful life she was a close companion to Bob Liss, who predeceased her this past year.Bob was an esteemed former client of mine and I have fond memories of seeing them either at a dinner hosted by them or in Bob's apartment. Ben Stone

I was her grandson. She was a larger-than-life figure in my family for decades and one of the first people who believed in me when I was growing up. I will miss our visits and our long chats terribly. She led an extraordinary life both in its quality and duration. Her death leaves a huge hole in our family that will be felt for many years to come. I know that somewhere out there she is watching over us, and holding Zaida's hand again.

My Auntie Mildred was a one-of-a-kind woman. She cherished her sons, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great grandson. She lived a long and fruitful life touching the lives of all whom she loved. She leaves behind touching memories for my family who adored her. Our family matriarch has passed but will now be reunited with her loving husband, my Uncle Phil. Some people stay in your hearts forever. I was a little girl when the Stones lived on Bainbridge. Mildred was "Momo" to me. She, Phil and sons were special neighbours. I'm delighted to have such loving memories. Bonny Hoffman Kirschner.

ALTHOUGH NOT RELATED I KNEW MILDRED THROUGH THE FAMILY. 2 YEARS AGO I WAS RECOVERING FROM SURGERY AT THE RETIREMENT HOME AND I LEARNED ALOT ABOUT HER. SHE SOMEHOW FOUND OUT I WAS THERE AND ONE DAY SHE KNOCKED ON MY DOOR AND WITHOUT WAITING WALKED IN WHEN I WAS LAYING THERE ALMOST FULLY UNCOVERED. I SAID TO HER WAIT, SHE SAID WHAT FOR I KNEW YOU AS A BABY AND I HAVE SEEN IT ALL. WE BOTH LAUGHED. DURING HER VISIT WE HAD A LONG TALK AND WE BOTH LAUGHED AND CRIED A LOT. SHE WAS A VERY LOVELY LADY AND QUITE FUNNY AND FOR KNOWING HER FOR THAT SHORT TIME FOUND OUT WHAT A LOVELY LADY SHE WAS AND I MEAN A LADY IN THE TRUE SENSE OF THE WORD. Dear Glen, Doug and Jay and Spouses: I want to express my sincere condolences on the passing of your dear Mother. Your Grandfather, Morris, z'l, was my Great Uncle through the Walton side. I knew your Father, Phil, z'l, through CHUM. I guess I was always circling your Family all of my life, never realizing we were FAMILY! I hope and pray your Family knows no more sorrow. I would love to reconnect with my Cousins when you feel up to It. My Grandfather was Henry Walton, zl. He passed away before I was born, and of whom I am named. My Grandmother was Clara Cohen Walton, z'l. I do remember Great Uncle Morris when I was about 5 year's old. Let's be Family, again. On behalf of Mildred's sons, thank you to everyone who came to her memorial, sent their condolences by phone and email, and left messages on this site. Your kind words and warm memories of our mother have been a great comfort to us. Thank you to Steeles Memorial for the perfect service and outstanding live stream, and to Amica for their generous donation of the reception room. A remarkable woman who led a remarkable life, Mildred Stone z'l will be sadly missed, but the pain of her passing is eased by the comforting support of her extended family and many friends.

Mildred was a lover of life. She was much admired for taking on a teaching career later in her life, and taking on new challenges. She was a mentor to her family and encouraged them to challenge themselves. She leaves behind a legacy of memories to her family and friends. To the Stone family: My deepest condolences on the loss of your mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. I met Mildred many years ago working at RTOERO when I interviewed for the first time, following up by a subsequent interview and thus two stories in our magazine Renaissance. Your mother was aware that I was most likely the son of her cousin Al Leibovitch, and it was great for me to meet my second cousin Mildred. As a result of your mother contacting me at RTOERO, I was able to arrange for my Dad and your Mom to get to know each other again after over so many years of not being aware of where each other lived. I am so glad to have known Mildred and saw her just over a month ago at Amica when the concert band my son plays in performed for the residents. She was a lovely, special person and I am so happy I had the opportunity to get to know her and have her reconnect with my father.

My condolences. My wife and I met Mildred (and her husband) a few times when we visited my parents (Jean and Joseph Achtman) in Toronto. My mother used to tell me how she encountered Mildred in a literary group class and admired Mildred's contributions and insights. My mother said, "I wish I could get to know that woman," and one day she worked up enough confidence to introduce herself to Mildred. That was the start of what worked out to be a long-lasting friendship for the four of them. For some reason my wife and I were thinking of Mildred the other day and "googled" her name. Her obituary came up and we were amazed to learned she had just recently passed away at 101 years. Remarkable!
