Miriam Zakrojczyk, a devoted wife, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and Holocaust survivor, passed away peacefully in Richmondhill on March 1st, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on August 5th, 1936, in Poland, her life was defined by strength, resilience, and deep devotion to family.
Miriam was the proud and loving mother of Sherry (Michael) and Vivian (Stephen). She cherished her grandchildren, Tayler (Adam), Paige (Dean), and Maxine (Koby), and was a devoted great-grandmother to Leo. Her family was her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Leon Zakrojczyk, her devoted partner in life and in building a family grounded in faith and perseverance.
Miriam endured the horrors of the Holocaust, experiences that shaped her unwavering commitment to sharing her story so that history would never be forgotten. Her courage and dignity inspired all who had the privilege of knowing her.
An exceptional cook and baker, Miriam brought her family together around her table, where traditions were honoured and memories were made. Her journey from Poland to Israel and later to Toronto reflected her strength and determination to build a meaningful life rooted in Jewish heritage and faith.
Surrounded by her family in her final moments, Miriam leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and unity. May her memory be a blessing.
