Myriam Liuba Bayerthal, née Prizant and Frisman, died peacefully in her sleep on October 24, 2025 at Christie Gardens in Toronto. Myriam was born in Santiago Chile on April 3, 1938 to Benjamin Prizant (bornin Lipkon) and Sarah Frisman (born in Tomaspol), sister to Leonardo Prizant. Shortly after completing high school, she was married and then had three children, Benjamin, Fanny, and Alejandro. While working, she completed her Bachelors in Education at Universidad de Chile, and started to work as a Mathematics teacher in some of the most prestigious high schools in Santi ago. She was always considered a gift eduducator, who had a huge impact on her students and colleagues. She had to make the difficult decision to leave Santiago, and came with her younger children to Vancouver in 1977. There, she met Hans Peter Bayerthal – or “von Bayerthal” as she liked to say – and they were married for forty-one years until Peter’s passing in 2021. In Vancouver, she finished an MA in Education, and returned to teaching advanced Mathematics for high school. She was a very loving mother and grandmother, and devoted to her family. She had a quick wit, a beautiful smile, and an indomitable spirit. She leaves behind her three children and their spouses: Benjamin and Sylvia, Fanny and Mircea and Alejandro and Natalie. She also leaves beloved six grandchildren, and four great-granddaughters. The family wishes to thank all the staff at Christi e Gardens who looked aft er our mother faithfully and kindly for the past 12 years.
