I am saddened and shocked to hear of the untimely death of my cousin Naomi, at such a young age. ALthough I have not seen her in several decades, I knew her as a precocious and creative young girl growing up in Kitchener, Ont. I understand that she and her husband raised a fine family, and my thoughts are with them at this time. תהא נפשה צרורה בצרור החיים

I am deeply shocked and saddened by the news of the sudden death of my cousin Naomi. I have fond memories of our childhood times together in the early years in Canada. Although I have not seen her for many years, I have been keeping up with her many accomplishments. I send my heartfelt condolences to her family. Refuah shelema to Benjy.

On the few times I had a brief chat with Naomi I was always impressed with her class, kindness, intelligence and honesty. I am confident she exhibited far more fine character traits. I offer my sincere condolences to Rabbi Hecht, the children and grandchildren.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear of my cousin Naomi's untimely death....it was so sudden and so very sad. Although I have not been in touch with Naomi for many years I have been in touch with Benjy professionally over the years and therefore kept up with Naomi's amazing accomplishments. I wish Benjy a Refuah Shlema and my condolences to their children, and my cousins, Naomi's sisters and brother.

Although I have not seen the family in years, it is quite difficult not to remember Naomi's big heart. Naomi was kind, honest, open, creative, loving, and fun. She listened and reflected. She understood the depths of love. I remember when Naomi took me and Razi to the Science Centre and The Hockey Hall of Fame and gave us the opportunity to learn, explore, and play. The world has lost greatness. My deepest condolences to the family.

Dear Rabbi Hecht, Dodi-Lee, Chai, Tikva, and Razi, I was lucky to spend many Shabbat lunches with your family for a few years in my 20s (more than 20 years ago now), and Naomi was a meaningful figure for me then (as were you, Rabbi Hecht). One of the things I remember most about Naomi is that she was an unusually present listener and an unusually original, thoughtful responder. The way she interacted with people – especially her children – left a mark on me for life, and there are aspects of my own mothering style that I trace directly back to her - to what I learned by watching her. For instance, for many, many years, the walls of my home were covered with my children’s art – every room, every wall - because it was the most interesting and most meaningful art in the world for me. That is something I learned from Naomi – and it’s not really about the art. It’s about how a person is with her kids – about making sure that kids know both that they are being seen by their parent, and that what is being seen is being appreciated and valued and recognized. That’s what I remember most about Naomi. And one day, I hopefully will get the chance to plaster my walls again with my grandchildren's art. And if I do, I expect that I will remember Naomi. And if I do, I promise that I will tell my grandkids this story about her, and that I learned this from her. I also remember the books in the Hecht house, Naomi’s books. They were stacked high, and Naomi told me once that they were some of her closest friends. That resonated and still does. I remember walking back from shul on Shabbat with Rabbi Hecht to the Hecht home, where Naomi generally was, and I remember how happy she always was to see him, how they both greeted each other with so much expressed love. I remember during the Shabbat table conversations, how Naomi related to her kids’ and her guests’ thoughts and ideas with so much interest, curiosity, and respect. She had a magnetic personality and a way of bringing people out of themselves, and it was so clear how everyone who came to her home felt welcome and enjoyed spending time with her. And also, I remember that when my father died, Naomi wrote me a letter that comforted me because it spoke so clearly in her voice, which I valued so much at that time in my life. (I also remember how present Rabbi Hecht was for me at that time specifically and during that period of my life in general - and I was lucky for that. I don't think I have thanked you for that, Rabbi Hecht. Thank you for giving me your time then. It meant a lot to me!) I’m so sorry to hear about Naomi's passing, and I'm sorry that her grandchildren won’t get the chance to know her. But she once told me about how an idea that I had shared with her meant something to her, and how she shared it with someone else, and she said something to me like, “See? See how far you go?” I hope that this comforts you, her family members. I have no doubt that you will all share her ideas and unique way of being in the world with those whom you love, and that this way, she will go far, and for a very long time. I wanted to express my condolences to Naomi's husband and family and to the Rosensweig family. It was a shock to hear of her passing. Even though I had only seen her a very few times since leaving Kitchener, I have strong memories of the highly intelligent, very competitive (in a good way), but also somewhat quiet person she was throughout our years at Beth Jacob Talmud Torah, Junior Congregation and the many other programs in which we participated together. Through the subsequent years, people I knew who were in touch with Naomi always spoke very well of her and what she was doing. I grew up in Cambridge, then called Preston, On. We had an active Shul in Galt, On. Unfortunately, we were not much in touch with the Kitchener-Waterloo community. When Brenda and I got married, we lived in Kitchener. But by then the Rabbi's family had all moved to Toronto, so we did not know Naomi.
