Dear Janice, I was so very sorry to hear of Neil’s passing from Stuart. I remember Neil from so many years ago at our house on Elder St. Thinking of you and your family at this very sad time.

Dear Aunty Mina, Fran, Janice & Alex and families, My deepest condolences on the loss of your son, brother, father and uncle. He was a wonderful man who always had nothing but good things to say and a smile on his face and in his heart. Neil z"l will be truly missed by all who knew him. I am writing this to Raquel and Jake with the hope that it will find its way to you somehow. I want you to know how much I know that your dad loved you and was so proud of who you are, and the people he hoped to see you will one day become. I met your dad in 1999. He was a Valentine’s Day present from my wife who thought I needed a trainer, and found Neil’s name and number on a flyer taped to the front door of his apartment entrance on Eglinton. In our first meeting Neil asked whether this is a one session arrangement or something more long term. I said let’s see, and 21 years later he was still trying to get me more fit. We had a lot of time to talk, being together two hours a week, for over two decades. We talked a lot, and about many things. Circumstances conspired against him so that he wasn’t able to be as present with you as he wanted to be. However, he was determined to be with you, and he was always for you, regardless of the headwinds he faced. He would proudly share with me your school and sports accomplishments and his greatest pleasure was to be with you, and to talk with you. His health was a struggle for him for much of the time we knew each other. However, he kept pushing on and pushing through as best as he could. He always tried his best. He was a person of very high character- he could be trusted, he was loyal, he cared. I once asked him if you won the lottery what would you do? He didn’t say he would buy a house, or a nice car or go on a fancy trip. He said he would check himself into a medical clinic somewhere and try and get better. He desperately wanted to get better, for himself, for the two of you, and for the rest of his family who he cared so much about and who cared so very much for him. I don’t want you to think that all we talked about over those years was pushups and problems. We covered a lot of other ground. He had great memories that he talked about often: camping trips with his high school friends, trips to Florida, the family farm in Keswick riding on a tractor. He was so appreciative of his mom, his sisters and his brother in law. He was really proud of his nephews. He had good friends. He was always thinking of ideas to improve his financial situation, primarily so that he could give more to the two of you. About five years into our training regimen it occurred to us that our relationship would make a great sit-com. Some pilot s were written, development deals were entered into with a number of production companies, and the show came pretty close to being picked up by a Canadian TV network. Nothing would have pleased me more than to have the show on TV and my sharing some royalties with him. We kidded about going to the Emmys together, with Neil wearing his Boston Bruins hat. We shared a lot of dreams. The show was essentially about how someone who may be very different from you could be just the person that helps you get your life on track. That was your dad. He was a special person and a special friend. I miss him. I will remember him. I will happily talk to you more about your dad any time.

Neil and I became friends 40 years ago in high school, but over the years we became best of friends. Everyone of the boys and I always felt close to Neil, his physique made you notice him when he walked in the room cause he was the strongest of us all. His sense of humour was great and when he was together with any of us it was always a good time. I can't express how much I will miss you Neil. One of the good guys, Rest in peace. I am so very sorry to Neil's family and friends for this tragic loss. I was lucky enough to joke with him, share food with him, catch up with him, and watch sports with him over the years as he was my dad's trainer. I will always remember him as a caring and devoted father, a passionate hockey lover, and a very friendly and gentle spirit. I wish he had more time to improve his health and more time to fulfill his dreams, and more time to do what he loved to do - laugh, play and watch sports, and enjoy the company of loves ones. Mina, Janice, Fran, Raquel, Jake and the rest of the family. I met Neil in junior high and although I didn’t see him much after university I will always cherish our good times together. Nothing will ever take away memories of all our sports playing on a daily basis. Laughter was always number one. RIP pal. You will be sorely missed by everyone.

I was fortunate enough to meet Neil in junior high and then to date him in high school. We shared so many fun times together from the very memorable high school camping trip to prom. He was always so much fun to be around with his quick sense of humour and his kind and caring spirit. We often hear about the good ole days, but those were truly them, we just didn’t know it at the time. Neil made my life much richer and for that I will always be grateful. My deepest and most sincere condolences to his family.

Mina, and family, I was a junior high and high school friend of Neil's and enjoyed many good times with him. I was very saddened when my friend David told me the news of his passing. His memory lives on in the many people he touched and who cared about him. Rest in peace, Neil.

Having grown up with this wonderful, warm closeknit family, one could not help but fall in love with baby brother Neil. Neil was always around when we visited and I can remember a sweet little boy with a giggle and a bright big smile. Having changed his name to Rybak in honour of his father Sam, the originator of this bright beautiful smile they both shared , shows how thoughtfuland sensitive Neil was. Neil left this wold too soon, but left a huge impact on anyone who was lucky enogh to call him friend or mentor.
