Norman Chester

Beloved son of the late Sophie and the late Ted Chester, dearest brother of Rochelle Chester (and Daniel Horwitz) and Melanie Zeldman. Loving uncle to his nieces and nephews in Toronto, Jerusalem, Hamilton, Ohio, and Australia. Norman was a beautiful soul who brought light and love to all who knew him. We will miss him dearly.

Melanie and Rochelle and your families ... I have so many fond memories of being in your house growing up. Normie was where ever we were, watching tv in the family room or eating in your kitchen surrounded by your parents who were always pushing food on us. Lasting, visual memories that have always stuck with me. It is with a heavy heart and a full stomach that I say goodbye to your dear brother.

I met Norman in 1990 ---- he became part of my family, attending my kids birthday parties, giving out Halloween candy and always bringing love and laughter wherever he was. I was lucky to have met him. Rochelle, my deepest sympathies for your loss. Norm was one of a kind.

Dear Melanie and Rochelle, I have such vivid memories of being at your house and having Norman following behind or watching our basement jazz choreography afternoons. I can still hear your mother saying "Norman! " and finding him an alternate activity. I have often thought of him over the years. Wishing you strength through a difficult time.

Norman was a special human being! He taught us valuable life lessons of humililty and graditude, if we willing to learn. Rochelle was truly " the best sister in the world" he could possibly have. My staff and myself are so terribly saddened by this unfortunate passing of Norman. I was Norman's Podiatrist for decades. We always enjoyed his clinic visits because he had the gift of gab and loved to kibbitz. Without fail, he always provided me with detailed instructions on how to proceed with his treatments. It was a pleasure to know this terrific, charismatic gentleman. He will be sadly missed by all. Please cherish the fond memories and always hold then them close to your hearts. Our thoughts are most certainly with you during this difficult time..

Dearest Rochelle and Melanie, I have many beautiful memories of Norman, including how he would often tell me (and lots of other women/teenagers) that I/we looked like Bo Derek, or some other famous moviestar! I remember him laughing when watching TV in your front room, and I have fond memories of enjoying a meal together with him, and your parents. He appreciated your mom's cooking (and so did I!). I was so sorry to hear about Norman's passing. There is another angel in heaven now. He was such sweet guy. Always made me laugh. He and my brother Richard (Tepper) were always teasing each other when they were together, mostly in fun. They knew each other for a very long time at the North York Workshop and bowling. I fondly remember Norman, especially at the Christmas parties at Birch Avenue. He will be in our prayers.

Meeting Norman many years ago as a Program Supervisor through Community Living Toronto was a wonderful gift . Norman was a questioning independent thinker, extremely witty, and made many keen observations on his peers and staff team at the center. His charismatic nature , intelligence and wisecracks will stay with me. Norman had the great skill in being a self -advocate and ensuring his choices were respected. Norman leaves a legacy of kindness ,good will and many sweet memories. I extend my deepest sympathy to Norman's beautiful family.
