To Dot and Family, Paul was always a light for me. Humour is the greatest wisdom and he had that in spades. I will miss him and remember him always as a wise and funny man.

So sorry for your loss, Dot. You may recall that we met in Mexico City a year or so ago when my friend Marianna and I were staying at the Red Tree House. It was enjoyable meeting both of you. I hope all the many laughs and positive memories of the years you spent with Paul will sustain you in the months ahead.

Dear Unterman Family, I have had the pleasure of knowing Paul for nine years. As BCC's first Executive Director I saw Paul work tirelessly helping others who were going through bladder cancer diagnosis and treatment. He was instrumental in getting the organization off the ground in the early days along side Greg Neely who succumbed to this disease back in September 2015. A dedicated board member and organizer of the Toronto Walk. Paul's family has raised thousands and thousands of dollars in support of Bladder Cancer Canada which served to help others. Unfortunately for Paul the cure has not come soon enough but he has paved the way for others to see this happen in their lifetime. My sincerest condolences. Tammy Northam

Whenever coming into a family gathering, it was always a relief to see Paul's face. I knew then that there was someone I could have a laugh with and get some direct, unpretentious insight. It was a pleasure knowing him. Paul will really be missed.

Dear Dot, Aaron and Caitlin -- what a wonderful & fitting obituary for Paul. Just seeing his picture here made me smile and recall his warmth. I know this has been a long journey that you both have taken with courage but I am sending my deepest condolences to you and the family.

To Paul's entire family, I have known Paul since high school, and though we didn't see each other often, he and Dot and I easily picked up wherever we left off. Whether it was in Mexico or Toronto, it felt like no time had passed, with Paul always at the ready with a fresh quip. Like everyone else, I will miss him. With love and condolences, Sharon

Ann and I were good friends of Paul, Dot, Aaron and Caitlin for more years than I care to count. For many years we were neighbours on Markham Street, and then we became closer friends after we left. We enjoyed the good times with him and Dot at our cottages, our homes and at many restaurants. More recently we were amazed by his patience and incredible good humour through the bad times. Paul, for you I am glad the bad times are over. For us, we will mourn your passing and will miss your courageous friendship.

Im so glad to have known Paul from Vaughan Road Collegiate days. I always admired his spirit, energy, strong relationship with Dot, and, as many have said, his ability to join with others to be fun and funny. So sad at his passing. Frances and I wish to offer sincere condolences to the family.

My deepest condolences to Dot and all the family for the loss of this wonderful man. I look back on those days when he was manager at the Central YMCA with fondness. I got to know Paul as a volunteer over many years. He worked so hard to create a real sense of community at the Y. There was always laughter when Paul was in the room with his wicked sense of humour. Thank you Paul for making a difference in my life.

It is with sadness that I learned of Paul's passing. He was the GM when I first started working for the YMCA. Always encouraging and supportive he was a great colleague and friend. His boundless energy and positive outlook will be missed. Our deepest condolences to Dorothy and the family. Our thoughts are with you as we all mourn the loss of our friend.

Dear Dot, Aaron and Caitlyn; I am so sorry to hear about Paul’s passing. I have so many fond memories of Paul by spontaneously crossing paths, running into him on Markham Street and also at various places in The City - the fruit market on Bloor, TIFF, and different local events and cruising around town on his motor bike. He always made a point of stopping to chat and catch up, and always made me laugh. His energy and zest for life was contagious. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Dot and family I have waited several months before making an entry. As you know, I was the closest of closest with Paul from the early 60's to about 1971. We did not stop being friends then; our lives simply moved in divergent directions. In those years, before marriage and children, we did everything together, including summer jobs, a trip to the Poconos for singles week, living together in a 'hovel' at Yonge & Eglinton and just hanging out. I spent many a Friday evening at the home on Rushton Road, eating my second Shabbat dinner. I called his parents Mr. & Mrs. unlike Paul who often called them Edythe & Johnny. We did not really see each other for many years, but the lack on contact was simply people moving in different directions. It was also a busy time for most with marriage, mortgage, children and careers. In and around 2010, we had an event which ended our relationship. I take responsibility for the way in which it unfolded and stated it orally and in writing. The hurt received by Paul was obviously very great and underestimated by me. I offered explanations and apologies but it was unlikely enough to heal the wound that I had inflicted. I think of Paul often, not with any guilt but with sadness for a life cut short and for the loss suffered by his family. I cannot turn back the clock. It is not at all relevant but I have recently been released from the hospital after close to seven months of surgeries, infections and disappointments. I mention this, not for sympathy, but for the fact that I and the doctors thought that I would not survive and that I would soon see Paul earlier than expected. I close this message now and wish you and your family great memories, many smiles, and laughter in your future.
