We are saddened to announce the passing of Robert (Shmubby) Shapero on Sunday, January 4th, 2026, from complications of Diabetes. Beloved son of the late Erica and Gerald. Loving brother and brother-in-law of Dana & Mitch, and Janna.

He was a kind gentle soul who will be greatly missed by his nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and all who knew him.

Shiva Location

Following the burial, family and friends are invited back to 89 Auburndale Dr., Thornhill, L4J 8W8 until 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with evening services taking place at 7:00 p.m. As the family is currently sitting Shiva for Robert’s mother, Erica, both Shivas will conclude Wednesday morning, January 7th.

This picture is how I fondly remember Shmubby. Such a warm and sweet guy. He helped me out with my English essays as I am sure he helped many at AY . This is such sad news. Shmubby….we had so many good times together! I’ll never forget our trip to Yosemite when he rode his bike up the longest most unrelenting hill - and that likely being the day after we saw one of many dead shows together. An incredible athlete and one of the smartest humans I’ve ever known. To Dana, Mitch and Jana, I send you love and strength for both your losses.

Playing baseball for hours, listening to Yes & Rush as he played a wicked air guitar or bass, shared love of beer & the McKenzie brothers, so many memories. Thats a great pic of Rob As a young man. It immediately brought to mind how he was full of strength and potential, and how smart he was, and athletic, and funny.
