Roman Ziegler
Holocaust Survivor
In his 92nd year on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at Humber River Hospital as a result of pneumonia due to complications from Alzheimer’s Disease. Born in Dabrowa Gornicza, Poland, Roman was the only survivor of his family, having lost his parents, Simcha and Devorah, and his seven siblings during the Holocaust. He immigrated to Canada in 1948. A devoted husband for 62 years, he leaves behind the love of his life, Miriam. Proud and loving father and father-in-law of Stuart and Gail, Debbie, and Adrienne. Adored Zaida of Dustin and Bonnie, Mara and Mitch, Hannah, and Jacob. Dear brother-in-law of Milton and Barbara Nash. He lived for his family and gave them a beautiful life, and was a cherished and much loved friend to so many. A better story and joke teller you will never know. Special thanks to Lola and Lily at Baycrest Apotex 6 South, and caregivers Galina and Eva for their loving care. Due to the current situation, the funeral and shiva will be private. The family greatly welcomes phone calls, video chats or emails at this time. In the near future, when able, the family will hold a memorial to celebrate Roman’s life. Roman was a Survivor-Speaker who spoke to thousands of teens and adults about the Shoah for over three decades.
