Dear David; I just heard about the very, very sad news of Sarah's passing, may she rest in peace and be of blessed memory. I am sure that you are heartbroken because I know how much you loved your dear Mom, and how much she loved, adored and appreciated you. She always said that she felt very blessed to have you as her son, and she was always so happy to be with you and to spend time with you. Your Mom treasured all of the times that you shared: special occasions, trips, and just everyday visits were all special and meaningful because you shared them together. Your dear Mom was so proud of you. She often told me about your accomplishments, your family which includes Rocky, and she delighted in showing me the photos that she treasured, and also telling me about your trips together, as well as her visits to your home. She very much enjoyed spending time with you and Adrian and Rocky, and she was also so happy after recent visits with all of you. I also saw cute photos of Rocky that she shared with me, and I know how much she loved him and that he adored her, too. I hope that you remember me. I am Gary Lloyd Gottlieb's sister (Heidi), and you and I met several times when you came to visit your Mom, and also when you were helping with moving some of her things at the apartment building in Forest Hill. My brother Gary was a very good friend and neighbour of your Mom in the apartment building in Forest Hill, and he was a lawyer and Bencher with the Law Society of Ontario. I believe that you and I first met when I was visiting my brother Gary at the apartment building and you were just coming to your Mom 's apartment. I had temporarily parked my car by the front entrance of the apartment building and you were parking behind me, and you had asked me if I could move up a little because you were moving some of your Mom's things and taking them to her. Then you and I started to chat, and I found out that you were Sarah Rose's son, and I told you that I was Gary Lloyd Gottlieb's sister, and that your Mom and my brother were dear friends and neighbours. Hopefully now you remember my brother Gary and also me.... It was either that day or on another day that I also again bumped into you when my brother Gary was also in their apartment building lobby, and he started to tell you what a wonderful Mom you have, how much she loves and appreciates you, and then he started to tell you about a book or two that he had given Sarah to read. (They often discussed books, current events, and how much Judaism meant to both of them. They really enjoyed each other's company and sharing thoughts and ideas. You could see that they really enjoyed their chats and lengthier conversations, and that spending time together meant a lot to both of them.) I am only telling you this, hoping that you remember me. Your Mom and my brother Gary were close friends and neighbours, and each of them would frequently tell me how fortunate they were to have each other as good friends and good neighbours. Good friends and good neighbours are hard to come by. They appreciated each other and each other's fine qualities. Whenever I saw them visiting together, talking and laughing together, I saw how happy they were in each other's very pleasant company and it made me very happy, too. I would often tell them that they were very fortunate to have each other as close friends and neighbours, and both of them would independently tell me that each of them felt that way, too. Gary thought very highly and fondly of your Mom, and your Mom always spoke very highly and fondly of Gary too, whenever I chatted with her. I was always glad that they had a warm friendship and kept a close eye on each other as good friends and good neighbours. I became good friends with Sarah because she was first good friends with my dear brother Gary, who introduced Sarah to me. She was all of the things that Gary said she was....highly intelligent, articulate, caring, very thoughtful, enthusiastic and passionate about things, funny, and also fun to be with! Often Gary would tell her about synagogue lectures and community events as well as a good movie that was playing that she might like to attend or a good book that she might enjoy reading, and I did the same. Sarah was always upbeat, interested, and enthusiastic, and appreciative that we had told her about the event, and she usually attended and enjoyed. Afterward we could all discuss it, and that was enjoyable, too. Sarah always had something interesting to say, and she could always offer a refreshing perspective. All of us (Gary and myself, our family friend Lewis, and your dear Mom Sarah) even attended some Jewish singles' events together including musical performances, lectures, and other types of programmes. It was always so much fun to be in attendance together, and your dear Mom always said that too, and thanked us afterward for telling her about the programme and inviting her to come. It was more fun because we were all there together, and it was also enjoyable to discuss it afterward because it was our shared experience. We all missed seeing her in the neighbourhood when she moved out of the apartment building. Gary especially missed her, especially having her close by in the apartment building, but we all kept in touch as much as we could by phone and by e-mail. Sarah was really good about keeping connected. Whether it was in person or over the phone, it was always enjoyable to chat with her. Sometimes I would bump into Sarah walking in the neighbourhood with Gary or on her own, or I would see her walking around the track at the park across the street from the apartment building, and I would tell her that she was much better at daily exercising than me, and we would both laugh. Sarah had a beautiful smile, a sweet laugh, and a very kind, caring heart. Sarah had a great attitude about life and appreciated her blessings, and you were certainly her greatest blessing, David. She always told Gary, Lewis, and me that. She treasured all of her visits with you and Adrian and Rocky, and she often shared that sweet Rocky would wake her up in the morning when she stayed overnight and it was such a wonderful delight for her. She showed us photos of all of you and treasured them, just as she treasured all of you. Very, very sadly, my dear, beloved brother Gary, recently passed away on January 10th, may he rest in peace and be of blessed memory, and we were very close. I loved him very much and he was the very best brother that anyone could ever have. I miss him more than I can say. I know that if he were still in this world, he would be devastated by Sarah's passing and he would be writing a heartfelt letter of condolence to you with cherished memories of Sarah, but now I am writing this on behalf of Gary and myself. Gary and I were blessed with outstanding parents, may they rest in peace and be of blessed memory. We missed them every day when they passed away. My dear, beloved Mom was also my very best friend. I believe that it was the same with you and your dear Mom. I believe that Sarah was your dear, beloved Mom and also your very best friend. It is a terrible, painful loss. No one can ever take the place of a dear, beloved wonderful and cherished Mom, and there are no words that can take away the terrible pain of the devastating loss. However, I do hope that happy memories of your dear, beloved Mom and all of the good times and joyful conversations that you shared together will be a continuing source of comfort to you always. I also hope that knowing how dearly loved and appreciated you were by your Mom will also help to comfort you in the days, weeks and months ahead and always. As well, may it always help you to remember that you were a wonderful, loving and devoted son to your Mom, and she always knew how much you loved and appreciated her. I always believe that our loved ones are still with us, in our hearts always and also always watching over us from HaOlam HaBah, Heaven Above, and I am sure that your dear Mom will be lovingly watching over you always. David and Adrian, we're sending you so much love and strength during this incredibly difficult time. David, your mom had such a radiant energy—always smiling, always sharing the most wonderful stories. I’ll never forget the many dinners where she spoke with such warmth and excitement about the amazing trips you took together, creating the most incredible memories. I still remember when Jonathan and I drove her to the airport for her trip to meet you in Asia—she was a little nervous about the journey but so eager to experience Japan with you. And of course, when she returned, she was absolutely glowing, full of stories about yet another unforgettable adventure. I feel so grateful to have shared moments with Sarah, like last year’s Passover dinner, where she made me smile with her joy over the almond cookies—what an honor to have them “Top Chef Sarah-approved.” More recently, I learned about how passionate Sarah was about her creative projects, and I was in awe of her artistic spirit and the beauty she brought into the world. She was truly one of a kind—vibrant, creative, and full of love. I will cherish these memories of her, and I hope you find comfort in knowing how deeply she touched so many lives.
