Selig Serber

Sel's passing truly marks the end of an era and conjures a lifetime of memories...so many good times (and a few very sad ones) shared and enjoyed between our families. David, Steve and Judy, I'm so so sad for your loss, my loss and all of our childrens' loss. Sel was amongst the most kind and gentle people I had ever known. He never had anything negative to say about anyone. Always had a smile on his face and joy in his heart. What a gift he was to all who knew him. Ruth & Sel, with Bernie & Gloria - the end of an era, but, they live on, in us, and in our children.

Our Deepest Condolences

I have such fond memories of “Uncle” Sel. We never did build that car but I’ll always remember his warmth, his gentleness, and the twinkle in his eye. My deepest condolences to all the Serbers.

I always enjoyed talking with Sel at the tennis club...he was so kind and caring. He always asked how my parents are doing and was so nice. I will miss seeing him at the club . I have watched him play there and chatted with him for aprox 50 years!

Most sincere condolences to the Serber Family for their loss. Sel was truly a lovely man whose bright conversation in the locker rooms of York Racquets will be sorely missed.

Our condolences to Steven, David and Judy and families. Sel was such a sweet man; the first real mensch I met in my life. Always had an interest and curiosity about my life despite our infrequent encounters. Spent a great day together hanging out on the streets of Moncton, N.B. of all places. Allowed me to introduce him to Christine, my wife, for the first and only time, who, of course, he treated immediately like family. He will be missed by many.

Sel was a wonderful man, with a great sense of devotion to family and friends, great sense of humour and fun , and a thoroughly deceptive tennis game. He ran down every ball, on the tennis court and in life itself. Arlene and I have lost a friend.

My deep and heartfelt condolences to Steven, David and my lifelong bff Judy on the loss of your dear, dear Dad. For us kids growing up in the 70’s, your Mom and Dad set the gold standard for parents we all adored. Always with a smile, warm and welcoming, open and loving, always laughing. Your Dad modelled really important traits for us kids – being present, being egalitarian, and being honest - we asked all the awkward questions of Ruth and Sel! They raised brilliant children because they were both so exceptional themselves, and I’m honoured to know you all and to have been included in your family. I’ll never stop missing Ruth, and now Sel. Sending all my love to them and to you.

Dear Stephen, David and Judy, I am truly sorry for your loss. Sel was an amazing human being with a kind heart and always the biggest smile on his face. He also had the happiest eyes and you could tell just by looking at him what a wonderful person he was. As an honorary member of the family, he always treated me with love and kindness and I loved bumping into him at Mayfair. May his memory be a blessing.

Selig was like an uncle to me. He was my father's first cousin. Zelick and Selig were very close throughout their lives, much like brothers rather than first cousins. Selig treated me so much better than my real uncle. Selig was always Uncle Sel to me. He treated me with so much love & kindness. Uncle Sel & Aunt Ruth were the reason I took up snow skiing. He took the time to go with me to Rudy's Ski Shope to select the proper gear and I can remember that day like it was yesterday. I was always invited up to the Serber's Chalet. This I did many times for a few years at Christmas. I have such fond memories. Their marriage was amazing their family was super cool and a blast to be around and hang out with. Uncle Sel was a bright spot in my life always interested always smiling his heart was full of kindness love and caring. I regret not having any contact with anyone since the passing of my Dad 13 years ago meaning Selig or my cousins Steve Judy or David. I would like to be at the funeral. I feel so awkward after so many years. I loved Selig and Ruth and the family. To Steven Judy and David my deepest condolences to each of you and to your families. Your Dad was someone very very special in my life. So grateful that he was there!!

Dear server family, We were fortunate to see your dad a few months ago, when he had Gloria arrange a cousins lunch. We did not know how I’ll he was but it was wonderfull to be together. Dear family of Sel, I was saddened to hear today from the Mesburs about your father’s recent death . We had plans to meet for coffee in the village . Because of Covid we were unable to do so . I live at the Benvenuto in 401 ( for 33 yrs now ) He was a kind and gentle man who will be missed .
