Ms. Soul was my grade seven literacy and social studies teacher, but she was a lot more than just that! She was an inspirational woman who cared so much about her students. Even after grade seven, I was still in contact with her because I knew how exceptional she was! We went to The Giver movie, based on a book we learned in grade seven, together and discussed their differences and similarities. She came to my school’s Relay For Life where I got to honour her and her dedication to her students! She taught me to learn from our family’s histories, how to analyze books, and that you can be happy even in the middle of a snowstorm. But more importantly, she taught me how to be a good person and left an impact on me and her hundreds of other students that will last a lifetime! Much condolences to her family, she will be greatly missed.

My heart goes out to Shelley's family, her two children and her Grandchild Rosie. I have such fond memories of the whole Elie family. Shelley and I grew up together in the same neighborhood and our Mother's were friends. My Mother was Ruth Perlmutter. I was there for Rosie's unveiling and saw Shelley and so happy that I was able to see her again. May all the memories bring you peace -- she was a very special woman and was especially wonderful at making people laugh.

Dear Danielle and Lauren, I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of your mom Shelley. She was an amazing, strong woman who was a true inspiration and fought a hard fight. I'll always remember the year I participated in the Relay for Life with you guys. It was such an amazing positive experience and to see your mom do the survivors lap with you girls and Rosie was absolutely a day I'll never forget. Always remember you have a support network of great family and friends who are here for you during this difficult time. Your mom is looking down on you and smiling at the fabulous young women you two have become and will continue to be. You will get through this one day at a time. Baruch Dayan HaEmet. I was so sorry when I received the news... Ms Soul was my 5th grade teacher in her first year of teaching at AHS. I can't overstate her impact on me. Her humor, creativity and patience were invaluable in directing my energies and helping provide me with a supportive environment in which I could explore and develop intellectually and emotionally. She invested in each of us, giving us personal attention and constantly affirming our individuality. More than any other teacher it was Ms. Soul who encouraged me to be myself and discover talents and interests which have since become cornerstones of my identity. Some years at Associated I have few memories of by now; our grade five class, however, stays with me forever. I will miss her deeply; may her memory be blessed

I had the pleasure of getting to know Shelley at AHS awhile back when I briefly taught there, and would see her in the hallways during my subsequent time there directing the musical theatre productions.
