Peacefully at the age of 93, Shimona Sima Waldston nee Gelman passed away in Toronto on December 13.
Predeceased by her loving husband Gerry, mother to Ronny Waldston and Sandra Baltodano, Danny Waldston and Sara Heppner, Ilana Waldston and Dr. Ted Rogovein, grandmother to Jessica, Robert, Michael, Gabriel and Michele, Dalia, Nikki and Tessa, Miranda and Leora, and great-grandmother to Sam, Sophie and Aiden, Isaac and Isla.
She was the youngest of 5 born to pioneer parents in Tel Aviv in 1929. At 18 she was a sergeant major in the army and then second lieutenant in the air force.  She was a decorated veteran from the 1948 War of Independence.
While visiting her sister, she was fixed up on a blind date to the man who eventually won her heart for life and moved to Montreal.
Shimona was a strong hand in soft gloves.  An entrepreneur, a tennis player, an extraordinary baker and a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend.  She was quick to laugh, had a wonderful sense of humour and loved to dance with Gerry whenever the music was playing.
Special thanks to her angels disguised as caregivers, Edna Bondoc, Maribel Labis and Flor Salcedo for their love, compassion and devotion.
Funeral will take place at 10 am Thursday, December 15, 2022 at Steeles Memorial Chapel, 350 Steeles Ave W.  Burial services will be at Pardes Shalom Cemetery, 10953 Dufferin St., Maple, Community section.
